Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.


The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

    These folks really epitomize what customer service looks like in what otherwise in Austin is a ton of restaurants who just want to rush you in, and rush you out. Thank you for making my 50th so special and for understanding when several in my group were late due to weather and wrecks!! The server had great food and wine recs and Karim (? not sure of spelling) was adorable, kind and so on top of it all.

    We celebrated my best friends birthday and had an absolutley beautiful evening. The staff took such great care of us and we were deeply appreciative. I always bring people to Sammie’s when they are in town, truly a gem in Austin 🩷

    Great take on ‘red sauce joint’. Best Caesar in town. Both chicken parm and lasagna were outstanding.

    Food did not disappoint. The ceasar salad was the best that I’ve ever had. Motzarella sticks were delicious and soft with a beautiful cheese pull. Not usually a fan of chicken parm but the sauce here was delicious. The tiramisu and Valentines cake special was superb. Our service was great and we had time to enjoy each dish before being served the next. Once the house got full the noise level was a little high but that doesn’t bother me 10/10 highly recommend this place.

    Great service by Eva during a busy valentines weekend dinner. Each course was better than the last and our wine service was amazing.
