Been a supporter of this chain for many years mostly going to Birmingham and Bristol with a high degree of satisfaction but London is terrible both in terms of food quality and service We had the portafina starter which had only 1 scallop !!! How can a sharing dish has just one of anything The waiter shrugged his shoulders and said that is the way we serve it. After a robust exhange he did agree the bring out 2 more scallops I had tuna which was to be served seared - it came well over cooked with no flavour at all My wife had a pasta dish which was grey - how on earth does this happen In truth we gave up as the staff we negative and not interested in giving any kind of service The restaurant was pretty well empty by 10.30 when we were told the bar was closing !!! They opened the front door to encourage us to leave but we stuck it out a bit longer There were 2 indian waiters cleaning up as the Italians had all gone home You expect a lot more from a central London Resturant - I think all the staff and chefs need some training in the way the other provincial branches do it Rod

I booked San Carlo at relatively short notice and after reading some less than favourable reviews was unsure how our dining experience would be. I shouldn’t have been concerned, as we had a lovely evening. The food was excellent, particularly the Pistachio tart, the service, given how busy the restaurant was, was quick and efficient, staff whilst extremely busy, were courteous and polite. Also, given that it was the height of Christmas party season, we were there for over two hours, at no point did we feel pressured to rush and give up our table, which is quite a rarity at any time of year, let alone Christmas!

We went to San Carlo with friends who were visiting London on a busy Friday evening. The evening was perfect - great food, great service by friendly staff, and a buzzing atmosphere. This is our go-to place when coming up to London!
