   Dining at Smith & Wollensky in New York City felt like stepping back in time to the old Steak & Ale—unfortunately, that’s not a compliment. While the atmosphere had a nostalgic touch, the food and service left much to be desired. The steak, supposedly the star of the meal, was average at best. It lacked the rich, buttery tenderness you expect from a top-tier steakhouse. The Caesar salad wasn’t any better—on par with what you’d get at a mediocre chain restaurant, certainly not worthy of a fine restaurant. But, the real disappointment was the service. From the time our order was taken, it took over 50 minutes for our entrées to arrive. Adding to the less-than-stellar experience, the restaurant was incredibly loud. Granted, it was a Saturday night during St. Patrick’s Day weekend, so a rowdy crowd was expected, but the noise level made conversation nearly impossible. Having dined at the Smith & Wollensky in South Beach, I can confidently say that location offers far better food and superior service. On the bright side, at least the bill in NYC reflected the experience—it wasn’t outrageously expensive. Ultimately, choosing this place last minute was my mistake. With so many fantastic restaurants in New York City, better planning would have led to a far more enjoyable evening.

   We love exploring New York's best steakhouses and for a long time have always returned back to Peter Luger in Brooklyn. However, we now have a new favorite: Smith and Wollensky! It is all due to the exceptional food and the SERVICE! Our lead server was Captain Tony D and to say he was incredible is an understatement. He paid attention to detail, anticipated our needs and yet also gave both my husband and me the time and space we needed to talk about just what we were going to order! We wound up enjoying the Porterhouse for 2 along with baked potato, creamed spinach and bottle of wine. It was delicious! And throughout this excellent meal, there was Tony D, warmly ensuring that everything was as we wanted it and checking in to top off our wine and just see how we were doing. The experience was incredible and we will be returning again, if nothing else to be taken care of by Tony D!!!

   Our meal was delicious! We delighted in the porterhouse for 2, mac & cheese, broccoli and loaded baked potatoes, all items were presented well and hot!!! No dish waits in a window or on a platform to be served here. All personnel were attentive throughout our dining experience, we will definitely return during our next visit in the very near future!

   Celebrated my son’s 16th birthday here, and it was perfect from start to finish. Our server Paulino was outstanding — attentive, friendly, and made sure my son felt special on his big night. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the atmosphere was classic NYC, and the overall experience was unforgettable. Thank you, Smith & Wollensky, for making this night one to remember.    We had a table for 6 for the wine dinner which is an incredible deal! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was great! Our waiter Dennis was very helpful with suggesting items and was very attentive to our needs. Art, who was not our waiter, still provided top quality service to our group as always. The staff is friendly and overly accommodating to provide the highest level of hospitality. We truly had a wonderful night and will continue to come back time and time again!

    This has been a delightful experience! I have always wanted to try this restaurant. The steak was very tasty! Aged very well and cooked to perfection. The waiter had suggested we order a fee different cuts to share and that was the best idea! All the cuts were very delicious. We all left full and sure that this is the best steak we’ve had! Better than Lugers and Del Frisco’s. Can’t wait to go back!
