From the OpenTable editors: Eating at a MICHELIN-Starred restaurant can feel like a serious event, but that’s never the case at State Bird Provisions. The hardest – and best – part about eating here is sticking to your order, as a dim sum cart rolls by with plates like cheesy sauerkraut pancakes and other New American dishes with Asian accents. Thanks to an ever-changing menu from James Beard Award-winning chefs Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski, each visit is better than the last.

The "dim sum" small dishes are delicious, innovative, surprising. And they keep on coming. The servers are so friendly, so efficient, and so obviously proud to work at the restaurant. That alone would keep us coming back. PS: wine isn't and can't be the primary issue at a restaurant with these amazing tastes, but their wine is good and really complements the meal.

Lovely place - unique and wonderful food. The music was a tad bit loud but otherwise it was great. I think some of the dim sum style foods were exploratory and need some refinement but the menu items are outstanding.

State bird was one of my favorite restaurants in SF, been there at least half a dozen times. After the poor service and how dismissive the staff treated us I’ll never go back.

What a fun concept. Great atmosphere. Impeccable service. And the food was to die for. All the choices you want. You could try everything. It’s a nice opportunity to try dishes you would never try otherwise. It’s also a place we will return. You never know what your gonna be able to try next.

Solid experience here and definitely a good vibe. Service was perfect, everyone recognized my special occasion and I felt like I didn’t have to look for anything or anyone to get what I needed. The only dish I didn’t care for as much was the Garleek fried rice dish- flavors were too pungent for me but that’s just preference. Great job!

Wanted to try out this Michelin star restaurant and it had great reviews on Google but was extremely disappointed. We flew all the way from Vancouver to sightsee and try out this place for my girlfriend's birthday and I will list all the reasons why it's a rip off and you should avoid. - Dimsum items were mostly half a bite of vegetables for $10+ USD (we literally got two dumplings for $14 USD) - Server was non-existent and didn't clear our plates or refill our water, made it very difficult to eat when we sat at the bar table as it was small - Literally watched a birthday girl get a free cake in the table right next to us but we never got the same thing even though it was my partner's birthday as well and they knew this - We ordered an order of the pancake which is supposed to come with 4pcs yet we were only served 2pcs and when I asked the server he said and I quote: "oh I only brought you 2pcs because I didn't want you guys to get full off the bread". Who are you to determine what we get or don't get? We ordered something and expect to get it, but you just changed our order randomly. I also had to clarify if the price would be reduced because we were only served half of what we ordered and I am almost certain he was going to charge us full price for half the order. - Ordered the State Bird and saw that we didn't get an actual full bird but instead two small wings. I know this because we sat right in front of the kitchen and literally saw them serve a full bird to another customer, much larger than what we had. Overall a really poor experience and inconsistent servings. Almost felt like we were racially targeted or something. 0/10.

Really enjoyed the lively and energetic vibe of the restaurant. The 2 seats at the end of the counter let's you see all the cooking and drink preparation. Terrific service and the whole dim sum cart style of offering food was fun.

I was really looking forward to this experience. We managed to snag a reservation for the first seating on Thursday night. The website was not helpful in giving some guidance on the process. The staff bring out tastes of different items similar to tapas or dim sum. There were a LOT of options. When I commented to our waiter that we might skip the menu and just do the small tastes he encouraged us to order soon off the menu as it would take a long time. I felt pressure and we went ahead and did this anticipating two large meals after all the bites. We chose to bypass many of the tastes for that reason. We didn’t want to be too full and have too much leftover (we are staying in a hotel and have no way to keep leftovers). In the end our ordered meals were quite small and I was sad that I bypassed the bites that had been coming out. The place was also VERY loud. This is not a good place for anyone hard of hearing but even with good hearing it was overwhelming and hard to enjoy the flavors of the meal with such loud music playing and hard to have a conversation with my husband. It was an interesting night and one that we will discuss in the future but probably not one we would repeat. Regarding the food- we enjoyed all the items we chose but would have liked to have chosen more. If we were to do it again we would bypass the menu and just choose the tastings that came out. But we probably won’t.
