State of Grace is a coastal, South Texas neighborhood restaurant in the refurbished Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center. Elegant but casual, its elevated comfort food by executive chef Bobby Matos is executed at the highest level in a welcoming, beautiful space. The jubilant medley of old favorites played with new spice, accent, and freshness lends itself to southern, American, Latin, Gulf Coast, German and Asian influences. Chef-owner Ford Fry’s first venture outside of Atlanta, State of Grace is located in the neighborhood where Ford grew up and nods to his childhood memories fused with Houston’s evolution into a melting pot of cultures and cuisines.

    6 of us for lunch. Server Verboon (spelling?) was excellent. Food was excellent. Deviled eggs, crab beignets, hamburger, onion soup. If the prices were a little lower, you could do much more lunch business.

    Overall I was pleased with our dinner at State of Grace. The ambiance was very nice and the service amazing. The food was a little disappointing for the price point. Our red snapper as a little too seared all around. The true disappointment was the bananas foster. While I clearly saw that they had the setup for flambé table side, we must have gotten the deconstructed version.. dish of vanilla ice cream with cold caramel sauce and a cut up banana on top. I’m not one to pass on dessert but this wasn’t worth any extra calories.

    My wife and I have the same Petite Fleur Villeroy Boch dinnerware that we ate our delicious brunch on. Loved the ambience. Our waitress was so personable and made us feel so welcome. This was our first time for us and we’ll definitely be back

    Lovely place that exudes Southern comfort. Seafood is remarkable, though dim lighting makes eating fish with bones a risky business. Overall delicious main and side dishes, good drinks and good desert.

    Wonderful seafood tower. Oysters are incredible. Their carajillo with the orange twist is differently good. The potato side dish is the best as the crispy eggplant.

    Nice place. Great kitchen. Our food was a little slow and we made a slight comment and they comp’ed our dessert. Wasn’t our intent but a nice gesture. The staff are extremely well trained and overly friendly. No complaints at all. We will be back.

    Amazing experience! Staff went above and beyond for my wife and I 16th year anniversary. I requested them to make the table look nice for us to suprise my wife and they surely did. They had the staff sign a card, gave us a happy 16th anniversary decorated menu, and a candle to take home. So beautiful and thankful to the staff who did an amazing job. Food was amazing and def recommend the steak tartare that is prepared table side by the chef.

    We sat at the bar and the service was wonderful, friendly and engaging. The drinks were delicious. Filet and mushroom combo worked well together. Don’t forget the pecan ball desert paired with a martini espresso.
