My wife and I first patronized Szechuan Chef when it was brand new in town, having just taken over Noble House's space. We were the first to review it in TripAdvisor. It was our introduction to Szechuan cuisine. We followed when it moved to its current location. For a while, quality and consistency faltered but it got its mojo back. We have consistently enjoyed eating here -- we find that its shao long bao (soup dumplings) rank among the best and its regional specialty cold mixed beef outshines any we have tried in this region, British Columbia, San Francisco and New York. The homestyle lamb dry pot is to die for. There was a brief time we felt that Sichuan City or Szechuan Garden were slightly better but our visits over the past year have returned Szechuan Chef to the top, in our opinion. The only issue we have with it is its loss of patronage -- early on, it was always bustling with largely Asian families. I don't know what happened, but it deserves to be tried. Hint-- you can probably get a "meh" American Chinese meal here, but you wont find better Szechuanese cuisine!

Five stars for the food. Crispy garlic chicken and ma po tofu (no meat) we're outstanding. The hand shaved rice noodles are special. Six of us ate seven mouth watering dishes. Parking is easy. The ambience is so so in this former Japanese restaurant. The service is inconsistent and a little confused but rendered cheerfully and enthusiastically. We will definitely return. If it was closer to home it would be my choice for takeout.

We came on Chinese New Year, with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. Mike is 79 and has a hard time wiggling into a booth, so they graciously sat us at a large round table. We ate family style, and ordered the pot stickers, cumin lamb, dry green beans, kung pao chicken and smoked duck. Everything was delicious! Mike, who has some short teem memory loss, kept saying: i didn’t know we were going to have such a feast! This is all so good! It was a lot of food, but so tasty, we kept picking at it after we were full. As a result, we only brought home rice and a few green beans at the end.

Food used to be better. Kung pao chicken wasn’t like it used to be Didn’t taste fresh either Pot stickers just okay. Better ones around town Not a fan of hand shaven noodles - chicken breast meat was good but had hoped noodles were regular chow mein but that’s on me . Beer choices were not what menu had — badly needed to be updated

The food was excellent and the portions were generous. It was a bit noisy but I think that there was a birthday party or celebration going on but one can live with that. ll in all it was very good.

We arrived on time, but the restaurant refused to seat us. They claimed they did not do business with Open Table. Very disappointing.

Most of the reviews here seem pretty accurate to my own experience. The food is really good and at a fair price, with generous portions. The restaurant, however is not very clean in its appearance or with the condiments at your table. See my picture for more on that. I had the Hunan Beef lunch special and it was really good. Great flavor, lots of beef and well-cooked vegetables with the prefect amount of crunch. It was served hot and tasted very fresh. In addition, I had their hot & sour soup and some spring rolls. All of it was very good and I'd order it again. My Pepsi was flat. I believe they poured it from a 2 liter bottle that had been open for a few days, because it was flat and reminded me exactly of how it is when you've kept a 2 liter bottle in your fridge too long and open it, but don't hear that fizz sound. You know it's flat, but you drink it anyway. Service was very impersonal, which is fine. I don't think many of them speak much English, but they knew enough to get my order to me. They were also courteous and welcoming when I entered and left. I would eat here again for the food, but advise you to leave your expectations of friendly service and clean surfaces behind. Or order it to go.
