About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Great for happy hour
  • Good for groups
The Barre, Arts Centre Melbourne’s sleek space, offers a touch of luxury and hint of showmanship. You’ll find a lively pre- and post-show buzz that takes the bar and eatery from early evening to late night.

The modern Australian menu, with its emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients, offers both small and larger dishes to be shared and enjoyed with friends. Choose from a well-considered wine list with prominence to local winemakers, an exciting range of craft beers and ciders, or a distinct selection of cocktails and small-batch Australian gins and single malt whiskies.

The world of booze, bubbles and beers is ever-changing and The Barre is excited to also offer a range of alcohol-free options.

From a pre-show sparkling with a share plate, a meal with a fine wine or a mellow late-night drink, we invite you to join us at The Barre.

Food and wine was over priced. Payment was painful - no cash option After quite a lengthy discussion our waiter managed to enable each of us to pay for our own meals. This should be an up front option. Also it was very noisy- not enough soft surfaces too absorb some of the sound.

Staff were excellent. Went through the menu very thoroughly and were competent and polite. Food was ok but a little spoilt by the addition of ‘chillies’ in almost every dish including the iceberg salad! Could have done with some bread to mop up the sauce on the ravioli. Spices were a little overdone. Good coffee and out in time for the theatre.

Normally a great place to eat but not on Sunday night. item listed on limited menu had changed according to waitress. We were told the ravioli had pine nuts and pistachios instead of macadamias, also patrons had stated it was a bit spicy. Staff not able to say what was in the dish to make it spicy. On receiving the meal, it was very different to what was on the menu, the creamy sauce was a tomato based extremely spicy sauce, nothing like what was on menu. I understand they would have been very busy due to Moomba but not impressed.

We use this venue for lunch prior to Morning Melodies. The meals are possibly too large for the mostly senior diners there and it would be good to see a few specials. Also a variation in the roast of the day would be more interesting.

My wife and I were very impressed with our experience The Barre. What stood out was the level of attention and courteous service. The food was great. We ate before 6 so we got some happy hour cocktails. At $170 for two it wasn't cheap, but very reasonable for this quality. The gentleman who served us at table 27 deserves mention. Peter
