A Historical Coaching Inn with Traditional bar and a formal dining room; both with its own character.

We serve a great selection of pub classics, using as much produce from the nearby Ripley Castle Estate & Gardens as possible. Our chefs are constantly inspired to create special dishes to take advantage of the 2000 acre Estate and extensive Walled gardens produce.

We serve a selection of popular local real ales and have guest beers on a regular basis including some rare gems, so there is always a reason to pop into the bar.

There is a well structured and varied wine list suitable for all levels of wine drinker from affordable afternoon drinking through to more powerful and exquisite wines, which can be matched to our dishes to create a full dining experience.

We cater for any number of guests from couples to larger parties, families and dog friendly tables in the bar.

Please note we are unable to reserve tables outdoors.

Food an average Service not good Were not attending to our table and had to attract attention several times and ordered coffees and forgotten to bring them but seemed to be attending to people who had just come in for drinks more rather than the diners. Seems to me that need to separate diners Shame as lovely little village but probs wont be back. May be a one off with the Service but not impressed having pre booked table and travelling in

A thoroughly charming and relaxing experience. Really enjoyed the stuffed pheasant and ‘all the trimmings’ from the festive menu

Ate three courses from the Christmas menu. All dishes chosen by myself and my husband were well presented and imaginative. We look forward to our next visit.

We were treated well by all the Boars Head staff from start to finish. This will be our venue of choice when in the area. A lovely spot.

We have been to the Boars Head several times in the past and the food has always been good, the service generally good if a little quirky. We went this time as one of the party was looking forward to their Steak Pie. We placed our order including drinks and when they arrived I had been given a large red instead of a large white, there was some sort of excuse but I decided to keep it and fortunately it went well with my choice of starter. However when the mains arrived my other half was served a Steak, even though he ordered the steak pie and had in fact commented to the waiter taking the order how much he liked their pies. He decided to keep it rather than wait for his meal of choice to arrive. The steak was gristly and to add insult they would not reduce what they charged us to the price of the pie, just knocked a small percentage of the price of the steak. (If I had made such an error I would have given the meal away for free) and when I asked what would have happened if we had returned the steak and demanded the pie I was told it would just have gone to waste. Really really poor customer service. We may not be back for a while.

Amazing Sunday lunch, we sat in the bar area as we had a dog with us. A little bit noisy due to families enjoying themselves, but not unbearable. Looking forward to a return visit.
