The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee. Her seasonal menus are influenced by classic French, Italian and traditional Nova Scotian cuisine – with a little bit of Renée’s magic thrown in.     Always a spectacular meal and experience whenever we are at The Canteen. All their servers are fabulous and the food is consistently inventive, flavourful, scrumptious and memorable! Our server Liz was super knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and engaging. It is always so tough to decide on what to order because it is all so amazing!!! Thank you!

    the food is excellent, the service was excellent. seated quickly , however the noise level is akin to an american restaurant. won't prevent us from going back.

    We were a group of six celebrating birthdays. Our service was excellent, the food delicious and our server had good suggestions. Although we were between two partitions, it was still a bit noisy.

    The Canteen is a true neighbourhood gem! The menu is thoughtful, with a strong focus on locally procured products. The food is always excellent, and the service is warm and attentive. I had a side of kale Caesar salad and the steak melt, a special lunch feature. It was absolutely delicious. I love dining at the Canteen.

    started with the croquettes - delicious. pan fried haddock for the main - also delicious. ditto for the brownie. Service was professional, yet casual and friendly.
