Visitors in search of the finest, alpine-inspired, delicious food and festive tipples need look no further than Skate this season. Set away from the ice, nestled in Somerset House's West Wing, The Chalet, from pop-up legend Jimmy Garcia, brings the tastes of the Alps to Skate.

A few years ago Jimmy hosted his very own ski chalet in the Alps where he served beautiful food to guests after their days on the slopes. Our winter pop-up at Somerset House embodies the same cosy, alpine hospitality - showcasing the best mountain cuisine but using the finest British ingredients including native cheeses and cured meats to enjoy pre or après Skate.

The cosy, chalet-themed restaurant invites visitors to indulge in a seasonal menu of winter favourites and warming drinks, serving the best in festive feasting.

Private dining rooms will also be available for those in search of the perfect setting for a festive get-together with friends, family or colleagues.

The fondue was great. The amount of cheese fondue was brilliant, and it was so filling with the unlimited sides. However, we ordered the sausage to have with the fondue that cost £8. There were only 5 small pieces of cut up sausage in this bowl. It was incredibly poor value for money.

A friend and I dined here for our Christmas get together, thinking it looked really cosy and Christmassy and the menu sounded lovely. We were REALLY disappointed. My friend isn't a fan of fondue, so we ordered the Tunworth Camembert - £33!! We assumed, considering the cost and the fact that the fondue comes with unlimited bread and extras, that this would come with SOMETHING ... but it doesn't! Just a whole camembert - I struggle to justify the price tag for this, you can get one in Waitrose for £8?! We had to then pay £6 for bread and got 2 small pieces of sourdough for that! If you consider the time and effort put in to such a simple dish, I really don't understand how you can justify pricing it so high! It wasn't even presented nicely, just in it's box with walnuts on top! As well as this, the woman serving us made a real song and dance about the garlic dip that comes with crudities, so we agreed to order this alongside our cheese. This was basically just a handful of mis-shapen pieces of veg thrown on a plate with a small pot of what was essentially a garlic mayonnaise, that didn't look or taste homemade. I assume it was just out of a jar from a supermarket - the whole thing cost £13 and again I cannot understand this?! Absolutely no care on even the presentation of the dish. Finally; do note that they will charge you £5 for a bottle of water, after I made the mistake of ordering still as opposed to tap water ... All in all a £100 bill for something that was nothing more than a small snack, which lacked any finesse or excitement. The venue was OK but it was quite basic in it's set up - the photos make it look cosy, with log fires etc - but it isn't. SO gutted, as we had great expectations of this place and were quite excited for our visit, particularly as we'd heard amazing things about the Fire & Fromage pop up on Southbank. We REALLY wished we'd gone there instead ... this was a massive disappointment and just NOT worth the money.

Having wanted to try the Chalet for a while, we were disappointed. The restaurant was quite empty on a Saturday afternoon, and lacked any ambience there was music in the first room but the second room we were in didn't have any music. The fondue was fine, but not amazing and the side salad had so much strong mustard on the dressing we couldn't eat it. Overall it was an expensive meal for what it was, and we definitely wouldn't go back.

Unfortunately if you’re looking to get into the Christmas spirit this is not the place to go 😕. The food was ok but not hot and the ambience rather flat. The waitress was good and tried her best but the manager not so. It was £75 a head, one of our party was a 8 year old. The food took a time to arrive and at the end the food eaten didn’t equate to the monies per head. They could give back the short fall so we were given wine and cocktails instead. The coffee, espresso was cold but we were not charged for it. It wasn’t the ski chalet food, atmosphere or vibe I was expecting. Such a shame

We were served by Alex who did a great job of being attentive and checking we had enough wine and water and generally was excellent! Food was classic fondue i.e. basic but delicious. Great wintery vibes, perfect to kick off the Christmas season!

Lovely lunch of fondue with good bread, potatoes etc to dip. Small plates were very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Nicely decorated as Swiss chalet and next to skating ring if you want a pre good skate. Altogether an enjoyable experience.
