The Chequers became a Peach pub in June 2013. Peach is an independent group of gastropubs with over a decade of experience. Our aim is to make our pubs great places, full of character, great individual places to eat, drink & sleep; a place for local people, businesses, families & tourists to meet and call their own. The service given was friendly and welcoming. Food excellent. The menu choices were wide ranging so we look forward to our next visit to try other items on the menu. Good value for money

We all had the roast dinner, with different people choosing pork, beef and gammon. Mostly it was delicious but the crackling was awful and I am sure it didn’t come from the same supplier as the pork. It was more like insulation material than crackling - tasteless, tough not crunchy, not salted, and with no scoring or layer of fat. The crumble was not great either, really watery at the bottom of the bowl. We then had a problem with the bill, as apparently the person serving us had forgotten to use the right codes. Mistakes happen but it’s all about how things are handled. No-one was the least bit interested in the problems with the crackling and although they corrected the bill there was no apology. Overall it could be great if the front of house team were better trained.

Heard a lot of good things about The Chequers so decided to give it a try but sadly, not quite what was expected. One thing which they did not warn about was a private party going on which limited access to parts both inside & out. they should have just closed all evening for the party itself but hey ho. Service was good and food typical pub but nothing more. In summary, nice but maybe not worth a special trip.

Great pub, food & service excellent but menu limited due to key parts of the menu being unavailable - not ideal when the 2 things you want to eat aren’t available.

We were running late so called ahead and Emily answered she was happy to hold our table. From entering, the pub had character. We were greeted then seated by a very pleasant host and gifted an anniversary card and bubbles (8th wedding anniversary) we were offered specials and explained the menu, great drinks menu with lots to offer for everyone. We ordered and the food came in a timely fashion I had the steak and ale pie a must try and hubby had the burger on this occasion the fries were over cooked but check back done and they replaced fries instantly. We couldn’t fault anything and will definitely return. Thank you
