I have eaten here previously and our group really enjoyed the dining experience so I decided to book this restaurant as a special treat to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Unfortunately, although my booking was made long in advance, we weren’t placed in the main restaurant, but in the back room, which looked like the garden space for the restaurant overflow. There was no ambience, and it didn’t look like the restaurant we were hoping to be sat in. My husband’s Scallops starter was a total disappointment, and then his steak arrived overcooked and cold, served on the cold plate. The main course was replaced, so were the sides, but it completely spoiled our dining experience, as the new dish arrived when I was practically finished with my main course, so we didn’t even get to eat at this same time. The only positive this evening was that the waiter serving us was upmost polite, kind and trying his very best. What suppose to be a lovely celebration evening turned to be an average overpriced dining experience. I would definitely not be in any rush to come back, neither would I recommend this restaurant.

Tonight was not busy. Perhaps half full? There seemed to be plenty of staff. However the service was poor and extremely slow! Drinks took forever on the first order. If anything water should be the first item on the table. Wine bottles were placed on the table and it was a few minutes later that glasses came. We were booked for 7pm. The last time we commented to each other about how slow our starters were was 8:20pm. Far too long to wait for a few starters. My mother ordered a vegetarian burger. But yet her Caesar salad starter came out with chicken? It wasn’t ordered as extra chicken. I never checked the bill either as my husband paid. I ordered Chicken supreme. My entire dish was saturated in garlic. I never order a garlic dish as it doesn’t agree with me. The creamed potatoe was just full of garlic flavour. I actually couldn’t eat it all. Chicken cooked well but unfortunately soaked in garlic with sliced garlic on top. Totally overpowering. Steaks ordered seemed cooked per requests. We had asked for a birthday candle to be put into my adult daughters dessert when ordered. We chose not to take in a cake and a few have desserts instead. The dessert came with no candle even though we’d spoken to staff on arrival. At this stage the restaurant was quiet…so being too busy was not an excuse. We asked for the candle to come and be lit which staff did… just to mark the occasion. At our table not only did we have a birthday girl and my parents, but we had visitors from America-one being their first time in Ireland. This poor/slow and lack of attention to detail was noticed and critised by them also. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful restaurant. This is not the first time I’ve felt the service slow, but the first time I felt obliged to put pen to paper. For the record, €450 for a family meal doesn’t come easy to us. It was a very special occasion with visitors, birthday and Christmas. It didn’t feel like money well spent at all. Hope next time is better. Melanie Hearty

Beautiful dining room with lots of space between tables. We were a party of 3 and had a booth and it was super. Service was prompt and attentive. All food was delicious and very well presented. I would highly recommend the Clemont ….it has the little extra!!
