The food was good, but the service fell short. Our server seemed inexperienced—we had to request salt and rely on another waiter to get our drinks. This ongoing issue with service needs management’s attention, as it risks driving customers away.

Absolutely dreadful. Apart the appalling service, or lack of it, the food is just plain odd, overcooked, weird - clearly a chef had a night off. So, Fried Goats Cheese Salad with blood orange, sounds delicious as an appetiser? Sounds is better than it was!! Freezing cold globs of cheese in a soggy batter? Why not serve it hot? An enormous mound of salad leaves deviated it from a dish to a rummage sale to locate an orange segment. A true treasure hunt. Entrees: omg seriously the worst I’ve had in a while, let me start: Diner 1 - Quail. This is a small delicate bird, treat it with respect, deep frying it so it was beyond any form of recognition thus ensuring any flavor was disintegrated- you may fry chicken on a waffle, but this is a quail - what on earth are you thinking! Gently roast it and give the poor bird some dignity in what it gave its life for!! Diner 2 (me), Deere Farm Chicken Breast, I know the farm as I buy my meat there, awesome produce, but in the hands of the Comus Inn, let’s dehydrate and suck the life out of it with an inch and serenade it a pile of what can only be described as baby food mush, I don’t think a forensic pathological examine could determine what was in that creation. And the jus, lacked any depth and kinda swam away from the chicken for fear of being “sponged up” by the said meat. Deere Valley, best you come and test for yourself as your good name is associated with this!! Diner3: wow, this is the most bonkers entree ever!! Sounded nice, mushrooms on toast, well, ladle the toast in a watery “gravy”, “jus” - don’t know how to describe it? So it’s actually afloat, odd. Adding wet to toast makes it soggy, how do you eat that? And the mushrooms, not a forage of species bringing depth and flavour, nope, just your regular chaps, mutineers of taste, clinging to the sinking toast. A titanic of a dish. Absolutely no culinary skill on display, no sense of presentation and the food didn’t sing - voice lost and any decency, packed its bags.

The Comus kitchen can be a bit hit and miss. The short rib was delicious, however, the roast chicken was way over cooked, dry and mealy. As for the sides, the brussels sprouts were undercooked and the rest were tasty. The staff is very helpful and friendly as always.

The food were very good. The server did not bother to check how are we doing in the middle of the brunch. I had to call the server for refill on coffee. The server sent another one to bring us coffee and hot water. Eventually, the hot water was spilled over on my leg by accident. It was mishandling by the second server. They did not apologize for mishandling this situation and gave us a full bill price. We did not complain at all but just pondering

The food was outstanding; my strip steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The only negative was that we were seated upstairs and it was uncomfortably cold.

Our party of three ate at the Comus Inn on a Sunday afternoon at 12:30 for brunch. We have eaten there several times in recent years, but this was the first time under the current management. We liked the new look of the place and I everyone enjoyed our food (shrimp & grits/pancakes/eggs Benedict, with focaccia and fish rillettes as sharesies). Our server seemed to be a bit overworked. It seems that they had been given a table of 20 people to deal with. Not sure if she was dealing with them on her own, but based on our experience working in restaurants they should have been given some help or at a minimum been relieved of other tables. It didn't affect our dining experience at all, but we heard the server apologizing to other diners a few times because they had regular coffee but not decaf, which seemed like an odd omission. I think I also heard them saying that they had only Earl Gray tea, which again seems like an odd omission -- the oil of bergamot in Earl Gray gives it a very particular flavor which a lot of people don't care for. The view, as always, is gorgeous, and is the reason we come back.

The Comus Inn is a farm to table restaurant in the middle of an agricultural area. Farms are less than a mile away, so it feels like a getaway from the metro area. We already live next to the agricultural area, so it was less than a half hour from our house. The food is interesting, not the same menu items you see everywhere else. I had a smoked fish rillette appetizer and the country fried quail and waffles. The fish was good and the quail was excellent. Prices were less than most DC restaurants of similar quality. The service was friendly. As there were only five tables of diners, it was easy for her to keep up. The ambience is more country casual than upscale as the menu would suggest. My only complaint is the lighting is too bright and the seats have no cushions. For a restaurant that aspires to be a destination, it is a bit plain.
