he latest addition to The Winking Prawn Group is the Cracking Crab in Polzeath, Cornwall. With a name like “The Cracking Crab” you can guess what we do? Crab and a lot of it! There’s seafood by the bucket load and juicy West Country steaks off the grill, so why not check out the menu? The bar is always fully stocked with chilled local beers, ciders and wine, perfect out on the sundeck soaking up the views.

We are so close to the beach you can practically feel the sand between your toes as you tuck in, and the breathtaking panoramic view of the beach and surf is equal to any. The Cracking Crab can be whatever you want it to be; fun for the whole family (including the dog), a hot spot for breakfast, a leisurely lunch watching the surf, a resting place for a cup of tea after a walk along the coast path or an awesome place to watch the sun setting over sundowners before supper. Please book for dinner and keep an eye on seasonal opening time,

It was a great meal, but VERY expensive for a beachside cafe.

Down for a week in polzeath again... we decided to eat out at the cracking crab ,it's setting is superb, sky ,sea, and surf !all that was missing was the sun !!,but that's Cornwall for you .its decor is relaxed colour full and friendly .we had popcorn shrimps to start ,then a casulet of scallops beans and chorizo, for me ,hake for him. The food is good but not cheap ,we had a great meal then walked down the cliff path back to polzeath beach . Will go again 😊

We celebrated a Birthday dinner here and absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back. We parked on the beach - free after 4pm and followed the signs along the coastal path, a 5 minute walk and flat. The Cracking Crab has a fun, laid back feel and the decor reminded us of a recent trip to San Francisco with all the crab shacks. The food was excellent and plenty of it, the service was just right too, sometimes we’ve felt rushed but not here it was perfect timing. This is our new favourite, go if you can.

Took two friends out for a treat not knowing what to expect. Poor start as had to pay £4 to park, greeted well and surprised by the decor, which is a glorified cafe and sat in uncomfortable chairs and ordered drinks which were extortionate but looked forward to our meals. This was also a great disappointment, although tasted nice but meagre portions for the price, especially as we shared a small dish of vegetables for four. My dessert was a chocolate orange cheese cake with alcohol in a tiny glass jar priced £6.95, this was merely a biscuit base with whipped cream of no flavour topped with Chocolate sauce. The prices are Al A Carte without the experience, we are locals and we'll never go back again as we felt totally ripped off.

Cracking!! Location amazing and menu very tasty. Slight wait on service for deserts but well worth it - patience needed.

It was extremely busy and very noisy. Service was much slower than usual, although the staff were their usual friendly selves.

I went to the Cracking Crab twice during the Easter holidays. Both times I had my two children (5 and 8) with me. The first visit was just me and them and the second time I also had two friends with me. The setting is just beautiful. We sat right next to the window on our first visit and saw the sun go down. On our second visit we were in one of the booths but still could see the view of the beach very well. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and make my children and I feel very welcome. We try and book the earliest table we can for dinner when we have the kids with us to avoid tiredness (the children!) and enhance the experience for all of us. I have also been lucky enough to go sans children with my husband on a few occasions and have had some lovely, intimate dinners at table number 1! I love seafood and wine and both are very good here. Can't wait to go back in the summer!

Unfortunately this wasn't the best experience we have had. Having eaten here on a few occasions we thought it would be nice to take some friends but truthfully none of us were overly impressed. The food was very disappointing and the price tag was the same as Rick Steins seafood restaurant which was beyond superior in every way! My husband had to return his plate of soggy duck fat (supposedly a duck curry) which was replaced but by which time his appetite was gone. The menu was overpriced and we won't be rushing back which is a real shame as the venue is amazing.
