About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighbourhood gem
The Daffodil is a Michelin-awarded food-led country pub, with high quality Shepherd's Hut accommodation (bookable directly via The Daffodil website and via Air B&B) in the pretty rural village of Penrhiwllan. Located 4 miles from Newcastle Emlyn, midway between Cardigan, Carmarthen & Aberystwyth, it's an ideal location for a few days rest or a relaxing meal in scenic surroundings.

Food at The Daffodil is freshly prepared using the best quality local produce wherever possible. The menu, available to guests eating in the restaurant, bar areas and outside decking over-looking the unspoilt valley incorporates dishes appropriate for full three-course dining and for those wishing for more traditional bar-meal-style dining. Guests can watch our chefs working in full view in our gallery kitchen, or enjoy the unspoilt view across the valley, eating on the south-facing decking.

From the moment we walked in to the moment we left the staff could not have been more attentive. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and super professional. The food and drinks were excellent; we had the Sunday Roast. The meat melted in your mouth, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and the gravy was delicious. Desserts were equally as good, just the right size. Our dogs were made very welcome, it's very much a dog friendly establishment. We don't live local, we were on a short break celebrating my mums 80th birthday, but if we did we would definitely return. Thank you

Went out for my birthday and it was absolutely lovely. The staff greeted us when we walked it and asked if I had reservations and I did. We then ordered drinks ( there was plenty to choose from) and then went to our table. It was a lovely area of the pub nice and quiet. We had two dogs with us and they were very accommodating for them. The servers and staff were kind and friendly. Was impressed that they spoke Welsh. The food was amazing, I had the burger and cheese cakes and it was flawless. Highly recommend for a lovely evening.

A Fantastic Dining Experience at The Daffodil Inn We recently visited The Daffodil Inn in Penrhiwllan and had a truly enjoyable meal. From start to finish, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who made us feel at home. For starters, we were impressed by the beautifully presented and flavorful dishes—each one prepared with care and using fresh, quality ingredients. They were the perfect way to begin our meal. The highlight of the evening, however, was the boeuf for two. It was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and packed with rich flavors. The portion was generous, making it ideal for sharing, and it came with well-thought-out accompaniments that complemented the dish beautifully. The setting of the inn added to the experience, with its cost yet elegant ambiance and stunning countryside views. It’s clear that The Daffodil Inn prides itself on both its food and its hospitality. We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience in the area!

The pork belly starter was 5* and the initial drinks were great, nice to have a choice or selection. Was presented with Martini instead of Martini Rosso when ordered but soon rectified. The table of women next to us, a bit rude and obnoxious. Probably a table of Karens.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here last night, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Our host, Huw, was charming, extremely knowledgeable & very professional, his lovely wife, Jill, also came to our table to see if everything was ok. The food was delicious & presented well, they were so accommodating, we will definitely be returning. If you haven't tried The Daffodil I urge you to so the whole experience, the food, the staff, the décor, the atmosphere certainly gets my vote! Thank you for a wonderful evening and for helping us to surprise our friend on her Birthday.
