Great food and atmosphere. Poor service. It is not a big place, but we could not find our waitress for over 20 minutes when we wanted the check.

The Vanderbilt Dining Room was such a memorable experience. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and elegant — it feels like stepping into an old money estate, with every detail adding to the charm. We started with a seafood tower of raw oysters, clams, and Old Bay cocktail shrimp, and every bite was so fresh and flavorful. We also split a classic Caesar salad, and then chose our main course from the specials: the steak frites, cooked perfectly medium rare. It was absolutely delicious. The whole evening had such a timeless, sophisticated vibe. I’m already looking forward to coming back!

Our server, Brooke, was amazing. She was very friendly and helpful with our menu choices. It was my birthday and she made it a very special dinner!

Go for the old world romantic setting and expect average food. Saturday night in early April with 7:45 reservation and the kitchen was out of Filet Mignon and the Halibut special. The 5 shrimp appetizer was unimpressive; just Large, like what I buy at Costco. The bread order was skimpy, somewhat dry, and not noteworthy accept for the accompanying "Vermont butter" was tasty. We ordered the baked chicken entree which was not too salty, moist but not particularly flavorful. It was served on a puddle of tasty gravy. Dessert of flourless chocolate cake and a serving of salted caramel ice cream was delicious and perhaps the best part of the meal. Restaurant also had an odd mix of music genres that, if anything, detracted from the ambiance. Fortunately the music wasn't too loud. Next time, we would go to the lounge for a drink but skip the meal.

It's a beautiful place. I'm always in Newport and never knew about this place. My only thing is the menu for lunch was very limited. 4 entrees, 4 appetizers. Not much of a choice but other than the menu the place is lovely

I was really surprised that the food wasn't very good. Someone had a cold burger, someone else had instant soupy grits (shrimp grits meal), my French toast was great though. Also, the service was really slow. When we raised the issue, they self corrected but still, the food was pretty disappointing. We were there for 3 hours and it wasn't because the drinks were flowing. Beautiful location and ambience.
