Pull back the portico curtains and step into the historic downtown Newport mansion once owned by businessman Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt that has been reimagined as a glamorous social hub with a culinary secret to discover at every turn. From an intimate dining room with an intriguing menu of savory local dishes to the sun-dappled Conservatory and dining al fresco in The Garden, the dining scene at The Vanderbilt is crackling with alluring eccentricities just waiting to be explored.

Important Notes: Reservations are held for 15 minutes beyond the scheduled arrival time, and during peak service hours you may not be seated until your entire party has arrived. Once your party is assembled, we will offer you the next available table for a party of your size. Also, we do our utmost to accommodate all guest requests upon check-in, but unfortunately cannot guarantee any particular seating preferences.

We chose The Vanderbilt for the ambience Celebrating our Anniversary The hostess was so very gracious so we anticipated wonderful experience. The menu is very limited. Although the hanger steak was very good the side of ordinary French fries was not appealing with such a high quality meat The Blackened Sea Bass was unappealing on the plate surrounded by almost raw Lima beans and peas. Bread was $9.00 extra , The Caesar salad had little lettuce but much too much cheese, We just expected more for the prices Wine list extensive but very much overpriced compared to similar restaurants in the area . A glass of “average Pinot Noir for $21. Pinot Grigio $14. for a very short pour . Probably will not be back . So sorry , hate to give such a review but they should really take a long look at the food menu and wine prices. It’s a great spot and could be amazing .

Really us a beatiful place, we stay in the hotel, and we eat most of the time at the dining room. Service is impecable. Very attentive. Best dishes pastas, and gnochi. Very good options dayly with specials, of the day, excelent fish preparation. Delicious burguer and sándwiches. The bar and the dining room are so elegant and beatiful decoration. Good wines. Really excelent place.

Place Its really beatiful, bar is amazing. Our waiter was very good,very profesional. We like it very much in general. We had a very good lamb, sauce was delicious , and I got catch of the day, a fish fron Rhode Island, very tasty. Good wine by the glass. Ambiance and decoración beatiful.

Excellent experience and the staff was wonderfully kind - held our table despite some terrible circumstances. Excellent food and lovely ambiance as always. I highly recommend the Vanderbuilt!
