Dim Sum

A pioneer in the all day Dim-Sum & drinking movement. The Drunken Monkey is a sophisticated yet unpretentious bar restaurant. Red lanterns shed a rosy light over a long bar & retro Chinese antique tables. Huge mirrors edged with gilt latticework call up the decadence of a 1920’s Shanghai eating den. The style/design is appealing and atmospheric, and ideal for dates, parties and entertaining guests. The restaurant serves traditional one dish meals, such as roast duck and rice or BBQ pork and Peking duck plus very appealing dumplings and snacks, juicy prawns & deep fried strips of squid. The drinks list plays on with the oriental theme, using Asian flavours such as lychee’s and sake in our cocktails. Lager drinkers have bottled beer (Lao, Brooklyn, Paulaner Wheat Beer) and draught (Staropramen, Becks, Stella and Guinness). Happy Hour operates early evening during the week and ALL DAY Sunday.

Food was absolutely amazing and service brilliant although a little bit too quick at removing glasses that still had drinks in them. Toilets very small but other than that fab venue which felt roomy and a lovely atmosphere and definitely best Chinese I've had in a long time.

Great place for dim sum and cocktails. Vibrant place, great tunes and lots of atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. 2 minor disappointments - bouncers aren't overly friendly, bbq chicken strips were way too sweet. Other than that, great evening!

Cozy little spot, with fun decor and really lovely food (particularly the dim sum). Took advantage of the great happy hour to catch up with a friend for a casual dinner. Good value. Service could have been better, took ages to try and order some more plates and drinks, but we weren't in a rush so it was ok.

Service was initially a bit slow which was a surprise as it was relatively empty upon arrival. Cosy decor and infectious background music. Food was devine and generous portions. 100% would recommend it.

So I should say first of all that my review is tainted by the terrible experience I had with one of the bouncers at the front door. His aggressive posturing towards my wife, and towards me, including telling me I shouldn't come in if I couldn't behave myself, was unacceptable. And before you ask - no all I did was have the audacity to say that i felt he had been aggressive and there was no need as we had booked a table inside. I raised this immediately with the manager, who had the courtesy to come to the table. Naturally though, nothing else was done about it in terms of a discount on the meal - I didn't expect it, but obviously it would've been nice. As for the place - the food was good, but a bit hit and miss. The duck was nice, as were the dim sums, but the egg fried rice was bland and the broccoli - well it was broccoli not the Chinese broccoli you normally get in Chinese restaurants. The cocktails were nice, and before 8 the happy hour is really awesome value. The real standout for me though were the waiters all of them friendly and really helpful. All in all, I'm never going there again - starting a meal feeling like you're lucky to get in isn't my idea of fun. But if I'm honest I'd recommend you go at least once. Make sure you book a table at the back. The venue is quirky interesting with music and decent food, and open till late.

Went here on a Tuesday night to catch up with an old friend, wasn't too busy which was good for the occasion. There is a great selection of dumplings to share - the food arrived quickly and was tasty. One thing that would put me off this place was that it was very dark inside, I had a lot of trouble reading the menu - definitely not good for your eyesight. Other than that, a very pleasant experience - will come again.
