Stylish space but the food doesn't live up to the expectations. My son and I ordered the same appetizer and main. His appetizer arrived at room temp when it should have been warm. The sauce was good but two raviolis for an appetizer? We found the portions in general were very underwhelming. The sablefish bouillabaisse was uninspired. Skimpy portion of sablefish and a couple of small clams and less than a handful of mussels. We were expecting a hearty crockpot and got a shallow bowl that was comprised mostly of sauce. We had gone during the Fort Collins Great Plates Weeks and if these were great plates they may need to rename it to Mediocre Plate Week. We had gone to two other restaurants during the week and the food there was treated like any other main dish on the menu. Not here. If part of the experience is to draw people in and show your best and get a great value at the same time, then they failed on both counts. We won't be back and the "deal" offered for the Great Plates did not live up to the modest expectations we had. Maybe they can get away with over-charging for room service for the Hotel guests, but we're FoCo locals won't be planning on 'staying' at The Emporium anytime soon.

We went for great plates and to celebrate a birthday. Overall our experience was lovely. I had visited the magic rat before but not enjoyed the restaurant yet. The atmosphere was chill. Our first dish was delicious. Second dish was also good but not my style so didn’t end up finishing it. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant. We both had a pomegranate sour, which was so delicious. It’s cool and aromatic. Sarah behind the bar is a rockstar!

It’s amazing to me that sitting in the wrong spot can affect your entire eating experience. We were seated in an almost empty dining room then the hostess sat us right next to a lovely couple on the right and a group of 4 collegiate women who were enjoying each others company and giggling and chatting away. Their conversation affected the ambiance of our dinner. I wish we could have been seated a table or two away from others so that there was a bit more privacy for enjoying our dinner. This restaurant was a bit more upscale than a burger and beer pub.

I celebrated my birthday at The Elizabeth over the weekend (March 1 & 2). We have eaten brunch and dinner at The Emporium before - I am celiac and severely lactose intolerant - and we have never had an issue. Until yesterday (my birthday). I had the eggs Benedict which he had before and not only did they put dairy (clarified butter which does not fully get rid of lactose) but also wheat (my potatoes they made in a shared fryer). They assured me multiple times that it was safe. The waitress was very helpful, she came back multiple times and asked me questions about my allergies - none of this was on her. It was on the kitchen. I had a severe allergic reaction and had to leave immediately. I would not recommend The Emporium anymore, which really is too bad because they have delicious food. They just do not take allergies seriously. They could end up really hurting someone else, like they did me, or even killing someone with their lack of understanding.

I promised to give this place a 2nd chance. We went to experience their Great Plates offering, Great Plates being the equivalent of Denver Restaurant Week. My dining companion and I both picked their 3-course offering and wine bottle offering on their Great Plates Menu. The Appetizer offering came - Duck Confit Ravioli, the flavor was good, our warm appetizers were room temperature at best, not good execution. The Main course offering was Seafood Bouillabaisse, again flavor was good, but this was more the size of an appetizer than an entree. The Chocolate dessert was good. Our server was great, we've had the same server on both trips, and she is pleasant and does a great job. We received the bill, easy to add up, $45 for each 3-course meal, $45 for the wine offering. $45+$45+$45= $135 plus tax. Wait our bill was over $150 and knowing that the tax rate isn't that high I looked closer. Added to my bill was a $4.50 charge labeled as "Kitchen Appreciation." What? I'm all about kitchen staff receiving part of a tip offering which should be quantified based on food and service. Service was great, food was mediocre! The kitchen has good concepts, just poor execution. There was poor food execution on both of my trips so there will be no 3rd chance! No where on the menu does it mention a charge for "Kitchen Appreciation." Maybe find a new Kitchen Manager that can ensure that food and delivery execution is flawless, had it been, I would not be writing this review in this manner.

The food seems to be good, My dinner guest ordered Trout and she enjoyed it. The place was not full on a Saturday night plenty of available tables. I ordered a steak dish, medium rare, and after waiting a little bit of time for entree's to be served my steak came out more than well done. I'm not sure how a kitchen could send something that far over well done when I ordered medium rare? I sent it back, accidents happen, but what happened next was not okay. The front-end person who sat us came by and apologized, and then said the kitchen was backed up, and it would be a good amount of time before my steak would come back out. She asked if I wanted soup or something to hold me over, I declined. My guest finished her Trout as we looked around at empty tables wondering why my order didn't take priority over another table that had not been served yet. My guest completely finished her meal before my steak dish came back out, I declined to pay for the steak dish. Our server was good, we will probably give this place another chance. Hopefully they find a person that can cook steak properly before we come back, and a kitchen process that better prioritizes customer need.
