Fine ales and good food await you at The Fighting Cocks. We're a two minute walk from Audley End Station, situated on the edge of the historic village of Wendens Ambo.
The pub has changed a bit over the years since the first reopening on its current site circa 1865. The original pub was located some 500 yards away by the Old Forge in Wendens Ambo and was demolished to make way for the railway. In those days we are told the pub was called “Ye cock in ye hole”
Since taking over in June 2014, we have made some changes of our own to improve the pub. One was changing the pub opening ours. So no more hit and miss, we are open daily

Great meal, really good steak. Shame you ran out of the pie but just proves how popular it was !! Interesting selection of specials on offer as well.

We had a super Sunday lunch, could not fault it - excellent service from the lovely young staff; hot, tasty and well-cooked food; reasonably priced, what’s not to like? We loved it and will definitely go back again. We will not hesitate to recommend the Fighting Cocks to our friends and family!

We struck out on the noise front: three large parties, two of whom were on the bottomless (?) Prosecco menu. Oh well: at least a busy pub/restaurant is less likely to close forever! Staff very polite and friendly, food very good.

Food was great, service wasn't the quickest and the bar was a bit cold, but despite that we had a great time. Would defiantly go back, just with a thicker jumper on!

We had booked lunch for four of us at 1pm. When we arrived the place was deserted. Just two bar staff and us. The service was good, but I'd rate the choice and quality of food as very average. Halfway through our meal, several locals turned up and started playing pool at the other end of the bar. Other than that, the place was devoid of any ambience and it was all rather disappointing.

We went for the Sundsy lunch. Very nice it was too. This was our 2nd visit and it won't be the last !. The Service was great and the food matched the service. Nothing was too much trouble. We will return.

Food was inedible.. Chicken tagine was dry as a bone burger was dry and tasteless fish and chips a soggy mess and steak which was supposed to be medium was bloody at 1 end and grey at the other.. Wanted to try it as was looking for a venue for a Christmas night out but will definitely not be going there..

Went there to take my mum and dad out for his 86th biRthday meal. Food was excellent, service fantastic, extremely polite and accommodating staff especially in light of some rather unusual requests from my parents. Beer was good too, perfect pint of Young’s.

Nice staff, food was reasonable, but it's a tiny room, and our table for two was bang in the middle with people squeezing past, the bar was almost at elbow range and there was no privacy for an intimate chat between friends who haven't seen each other for a while. The manner and attentiveness of the staff did make up for it to a large degree, the chap behind the bar and the waitresses that served us were all absolutely delightful.
