About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Dog-friendly
The Horse and Groom Inn aims to provide great food and drink in a quintessential, traditional 16th century country inn. Dining is relaxed and informal in a friendly atmosphere. We stock a wide choice of wines by the glass, cask conditioned ales, lagers and ciders.

Our guests can enjoy dining in our cosy bar or restaurant areas. We welcome well-behaved dogs on leads. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times. We also have a comfortable outdoor terrace and garden area with picturesque babbling brook.

We also have a small in-pub coffee shop and delicatessen! Selling the best of local produce, bread, milk and a selection of luxury food and drink items, the shop is open whenever we are. We also provide great coffees to drink in or take away.

Our menu focusses on great steaks and seafood (vegetarian/ vegan always available).

Note: There are two pubs called the Horse and Groom in the area - we are the Horse and Groom Inn at Upper Oddington.

Server Seemed unwilling to offer food options to meet with dietary restrictions.
The Horse and Groom InnResponded 1 day ago
Our menu (available on our website) states clearly all 14 common allergens and dishes suitable for vegan/ vegetarian diets. We can usually accommodate special dietary requests if we are approached in advance. It's just not possible to amend every dish to suit specific requirements or tastes during a busy service. We can often make small changes to dishes, but what might seem like a small change (eg. omitting an ingredient) can be surprisingly difficult, as chefs will prepare elements of dishes to some extent prior to service starting. For this reason, if you have a specific dietary requirement, we would always encourage contacting us in advance. Substitutions across dishes on our menu are generally not possible. However, call us beforehand if you have any future menu query or requirements.

Good food. Terrible service! The blistered Padrón pepper, and the aubergine Ratatouille were excellent. The waitress never asked about how I would like my lamb cutlets cooked, as a result they came too well done and tough, but the red wine jus was very nice. Hey, it’s Cotswold, rural and remote. They wouldn’t even call a taxi for me afterwards. Not going back there!

Thank you for your recent visit to the Horse and Groom. I'm pleased that overall your experience with the food was positive. I'm sorry that the way the lamb cutlets were prepared didn't meet your expectations. It is fairly standard for lamb in UK restaurants to be served medium-rare, unless a guest asks otherwise. Owing to our remote, village location, it can take time to locate a taxi company willing to pick up here. We always recommend that guests pre-book taxis, and staff can't do this for guests during service. As a small village pub with high costs, we can't staff a concierge service and provide our food at the prices people are willing to pay. It can sometimes take an hour to book a taxi by phone. I would always strongly recommend booking or arranging travel in advance.

4th visit to The Horse and Groom and staff and service always outstanding in particular Slavka who is always smiling and pleased to assist in any way. Food is always excellent. It would be an added bonus if you served champagne by the glass as Prosecco is not my thing!

Mothers day treat, poor service, no checking to see if every thing was OK. Tastless starter. Roast nothing special, very average, hardly any vegetables or roast potatoes. Very disappointed, felt they wanted to clear up and go home. Will not be recommending

Hello. I'm so sorry you were disappointed with your recent visit. As you would expect, we were extremely busy on Mothering Sunday. Our plates were - as usual- bursting with mean and vegetables, in fact several guests commented on this. Had you raised with us (we are a small venue and staff were available for you) that you felt our veg portions to be too small, we could easily have provided you with extra. Not saying anything doesn't give us an opportunity to meet your expectations. We certainly don't try to rush our guests, and at 3pm we weren't ruching to go home (we are open until the evening). I hope if you return again that you have a more pleasing experience. However, I would urge you (or anyone) to let us know at the time if you are not happy. We try hard to put things right.

Great little pub with a good buzz. Food was okay given how busy it was. We struggled with the air freshener in the dining room? Seems an odd thing to have when you’ve got the lovely smell of roast dinners! But we shall return!
