Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Lair Restaurant & Bar in Leicester offers a lively pre-game atmosphere with "great pre game venue" charm. While food is generally well-received, "good basic food," match day pricing and slow service detract from the experience. The staff are friendly, but organization and kitchen efficiency need improvement for a fully satisfying visit.

Food was OK, the staff were good considering what they had to put up with. Drunk Leicester Tigers fans walking into the restaurant, pretending to be staff, sitting at tables etc. The disco that was playing in the bar was so loud you couldn’t hear anyone at your table. Just a bizarre experience

Great pre game venue Food was good, a little short on veggie options but good basic food Service was a little slow but it was busy so we didn’t mind this. Staff were friendly.

If you sit by the windows at night it’s dark to read menu used phone light to read them . Ordered drinks , 10 mins later ordered food , food came before drinks , asked server to check on drinks she shrugged her shoulders but did check after we insisted , food arrived fish n chips x2 half chicken and burger all more expensive on match day than on other week days plus £3 for slice of Red Leicester cheese on burger 😵 Then drinks arrived! No one checked back to see if food was ok , or came to see if we wanted more drinks, sat with empty plates for 30+ mins before server cleared table but no offer to view sweet menu or coffee , fetched menu myself only to be told few minutes later that there are no sweets or food available now as kitchen was closed (21.15hrs) Quality of service very poor! We asked to see the manager to discuss the bill after realising that the food prices had been hacked up for match day plus they had added a 12.5% service charge. To be fair the manager was very apologetic and said other tables had also complained about the price rise but it was the company decision, he looked embarrassed about the whole thing and did give us a 25% reduction on the bill fair play to him. This is our 2nd visit to the restaurant the first was a while ago and also a disappointment but it hadn’t been open long so we thought we’d give it another try!!! Needless to say we won’t be visiting for a 3rd time. Not quite the dining experience we had planned for our visitors from Northampton 😵‍💫

Another disappointing experience, as we tried to introduce new friends to the Lair. Service was acceptable, but the real problem is the kitchen. Very poor, tasteless and expensive food. It took 40 minutes to get the food from ordering. Luckily we booked and arrive very early. other wise we would have missed the match. The waitress was polite and quick to serve drinks. but please sort out the kitchen other wise we will eat at he burger bar outside - better food, quicker service, much better value.

Obviously match day is busy but the service was ridiculously slow, over 20 minutes before a waitress came to the table, nearly an hour before any food arrived and it took several asks to get the bill. Food was ok but certainly wasn’t worth £20 for a burger Won’t go again

Service and staff were okay as usual. We have a real problem with being totally exploited. The match day menu for Tigers games is different and the price of items that are on the normal menu are cynically inflated. e.g Fish and chips normally £19.95 increased to £24 and desserts from £8.95 to £10. The fish and chips were okay but quite ordinary (in fact the batter was a little odd and was hard to cut into) and not really worth the £19.95 and needed to be far better in both size and quality to justify being £24. We matched the same up to O'Neills pub and would have paid a good £30 less for our food. You can get 3 courses from Bistro Pierre for £23pp!! We will be rethinking our pre match dining options

Service on a matchday has always been slow but yesterday was unacceptable. Long waits for drinks, order taking, etc. Limited matchday menu was OK but the quality felt more mass produced than before and not to the normal standards.

Service is absolutely spot on, warm ,welcoming, and not "over the top" Drinks are priced at what you would expect for a hotel bar. However ,match day prices for food are absolutely ridiculous ! £25 for fish and chips !! It's Leicester ,not central London.
