An excellent pub with a small but perfectly-formed menu of everything you would want.

Have been to the Lion a few times now, we have always found the food to be quite good value, the presentation is nice, on reflection we think that whilst the restaurant is nice, in our opinion, w3 think that the bar probably has a bit more atmosphere.

Top bar, with dog was rather sterile. Service was very slow, as the priority seemed to be for the other bars and a little haphazard. Sunday lunch main course was good. We ordered a Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, for dessert. The pudding was average. BUT the sauce was NOT brandy sauce. It had the consistency of powdered custard mixed with water with the possible addition of brandy essence added. Not good. We did comment to this effect to the waiter when he collected the plate. This comment did not appear to acted upon and No alternative was offered.

This was our first visit to the Lion and we had booked for Sunday lunch. Whilst the quality of the food was very good one slice of meat didn’t quite just justify £22 in our opinion. Overall the service was good, it was a busy restaurant and the staff you could see were working hard. The rest of the meal was good and we intend to visit again.

The fire was unlit and the room was chilly. Food was only fair sadly but as ever the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Shame it was disappointing.

Booked a for a Sunday table. Very friendly staff. Good table. And even though it was a Sunday had much more on offer than just roast , which looked enormous. We opted for fish pie which came with a good portion of greens . It makes a nice change when the veg isn't just an afterthought. I had smoked salmon salad, the dressing was delicious. Excellent quality ingredients. Beers there wasn't enough choice for us so chose wine. Very good lunch but no room for pudding.
