The Red Door San Diego is committed to offering our guests sustainable and responsibly sourced farm-to-fork dishes. We proudly serve contemporary Italian and modern European cuisine with the freshest locally grown and handcrafted products available. We also feature delicious and unique ingredients from around the world. Chef/Owner Luciano Cibelli shops daily, personally selecting every item we serve. He bakes fresh breads, rolls, desserts and all of the pasta in house (including a special Gluten Free Bucatini) and he develops his menus in rhythm with the seasonal San Diego harvest. I heard so much about the Beef Wellington, so really wanted to try it, but was a little disappointed, since the meat was a little too rare for me and I had to spit out a bunch of pieces because it was very chewy. Other than that, the flavor was delicious and the music was very nice.

We came on a Friday evening and were seated on the Bar side. There was a pianist/keyboardist providing live music the entire time. The short ribs were so tender and tasty, and the serving was generous. I had the beef Wellington (one of the few places I can get it) and it was cooked perfectly. It came with a side of vegetables, which were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Just the right texture. While our entrees were delicious, two things really stood out to me that evening- the spicy pepper infused gin cocktail and the chocolate lava cake. I was surprised that the texture of the cake was light and fluffy, yet it was full of rich dark dark chocolate. I can’t remember the name of the cocktail, but it was so yummy and refreshing. It’s definitely spicy. The chef came by and checked on us a few times. It’s definitely a locally run restaurant with lots of TLC and locally sourced.

The entire dining experience was amazing. We were greeted kindly at the door and seated almost immediately. We did make reservations, so this was expected. From there, our server immediately attended to our drink needs and provided the nightly specials. The food was AMAZING!! There were 4 of us in our party and we each had vastly different meals. Beef Wellington, Orrechiate, Sea Bass Risotto and Scallops. All of the food arrived together, hot and it was absolutely delicious! And I couldn't leave out dessert which was outstanding. Highly recommend!!
