Service was terrible, slow with absolutely no care or manners. Very unwelcoming. The meal was to celebrate a special occasion but everything went wrong from the moment we sat down. There was no vegetarian option for a roast dinner so my sister could join the rest of us having one. Instead she ordered a salad, priced at £22, where the roast is priced at £26, so we expected something respectable. Before ordering, she asked if the ham in the salad could be removed and substituted with a vegetable for her dietary requirements and was told it would cost her extra. The salad arrived firstly as a starter, then was taken away and arrived with the main course hot, with wilted leafs and not much else. When we raised this as an issue, the team tired to charge us £11 for it instead, stating it’s a new menu and they would feedback to the chef. The manager ignored us and the situation and avoided the table. Other things were not up to the standard you would expect for the cost and it was very disappointing. We won’t be returning or recommending this venue for lunch, which is a shame as the surroundings are lovely. We were made to feel like a nuisance for the staff making mistakes and it tainted our whole stay at the venue.

We recently returned from a 1 night stay at EP in celebration of a birthday. We stayed in one of the deluxe pool patio rooms, which we had booked under the mistaken assumption that the pool was shared only with the other deluxe patio room guests. This proved not to be the case (our mistake) and, despite arriving early, there were no sun loungers available for our use. Whilst levels of busy-ness were higher than usual in view of the good weather, this was still disappointing. Service levels were also not, in our opinion, consistent with a 5* hotel where we were often made to feel like we were an inconvenience to staff members. One particular member of staff was especially sarcastic (making fun of my partner’s accent and, on a separate occasion, ‘jokingly’ claiming that he was on his break when we asked whether we could order dessert). On a more positive note, the food was very good and the hotel and its surroundings were just as we had hoped they would be. Dinner on the lawn was the highlight of our stay. We may return in the future for lunch or dinner but are unlikely to stay overnight.

My husband and I with our 3 small dogs had dinner outside, as it was a warm sunny day. The nibbles were delicious as was the hamburger and duck. For dessert, we shared coconut panna cotta which was one of the best we ever had. Service was busy but efficient and friendly. Well done Ellenborough !

The staff were absolutely charming and very professional. We were served lunch in the stable (?) room which was a tad dull on a summer’s day. A brighter room would have been more enjoyable.,

I’ve lived in Cheltenham a while and my parents had always want to try here for dinner. It was probably the evening we went but I think we were the only table not staying in the hotel. Our food was lovely - we all enjoyed what we ordered but the service let down the experience for us. This is not an inexpensive place to go and it felt like they didn’t really want to serve us (long delays in even acknowledging us, left with plates for ages etc) There were a couple of tables of residents who made it an awkward experience as they complained - quite aggressively and loudly which was unnecessary in such a small dining room. We will try again in the future with the hope the service is a bit better and more welcoming.
