We normally come every Sunday when the weather is great (literally 10/10) but today the service was God-awful (sat in a new section). When I asked the hostess if there was a shift change or something to explain why we hadn’t seen our waitress in over an hour, she told me to go order at the bar (even though we were at a table with full service?). Will come back to make sure it isn’t a consistent thing (hence why I rarely write reviews).

We had an amazing time here before a Nationals game! The service was quick a friendly even given the busy game day crowd. We got oysters, an oyster shot, drinks, spicy friend shrimp roll, and the waterman platter. All was fantastic!!

Hi, Rachel! Thank you so much for your lovely 5-star review and for your continued support! We're so glad to hear you had an amazing time before the Nationals game! It’s great that our service stood out even with the busy game day crowd. We’re thrilled you enjoyed all of your food selections and hope the beverages were equally stellar. Thank you so much for the wonderful review – we hope to see you again soon! Best, Chelsea

The online menu said that the lobster roll was available, but it was not on the in-restaurant menu. The crab roll sandwich, on the in-restaurant menu, was not available. My steak and eggs came with the eggs over easy, but hard, when I had ordered sunny-side up eggs. Food was a bit slow in arriving.

Probably our own fault for picking a bad night for my wife's birthday. Apparently, it was sports night and hundreds of people. Causing extremely long waits for drinks. Our waitress was positive and did the best she could considering the crowd. A long ways from what we remembered as a quaint oyster spot. I think we'll be looking elsewhere.
The Salt Line - Navy YardResponded 3 days ago
Hi, Shireen! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're so sorry to hear that your experience didn't live up to expectations, especially for such a special occasion like your wife's birthday. We understand how frustrating long waits can be, & we apologize for the inconvenience caused by both the Nats & DC United games in the neighborhood, as well as the Cherry Blossom Festival. While we do our best to accommodate all of our guests, we realize that nights like these can sometimes impact the overall experience. We hope you'll consider giving us another try on a quieter night to experience the cozy, laid-back atmosphere we strive for. If there's anything else you'd like to share or if we can assist you further, please feel free to reach out. Best, Chelsea

The Salt Line at the Navy Yard is our favorite restaurant in DC. Its location on the water , across the street from Nats Stadium is perfect. The food is consistently good. My husband is a beer snob and the beer menu at The SaltLine is always phenomenal. Their beer “ sommelier” is obviously well trained and experienced. We love seafood and our favorites like The Portuguese Stew , and after tonight, the seared scallops are simply delicious. The entire staff is always so friendly. Everyone smiles, whether they are serving you or simply walking by doing their job. Our server tonight was “ Gee” ( apologies for incorrect spelling) She was so attentive and so helpful at helping me select a delicious glass of Reisling. We love the incredible manager, Chelsea, who always takes time to make patrons feel like VIPs . We look forward to our next visit ! Thank you all at The SaltLine for another exceptional dining experience Marion & Gil F

Greetings, Marion & Gil! Oh you two are much too kind and absolutely made my day! Thank you so much for your amazing 5-star review! It warms my heart knowing that you enjoy our location, the food, and our beer selection—I'll be sure to pass along your kind words to our beer sommelier, our Bar Manager April. I'm so happy you loved the scallops as much as your previous favorite, the Portuguese Stew! It was such a pleasure having you both here, as always, and I'm glad that Ji made your experience even better. We truly appreciate your continued support and can’t wait to see you again soon now that the Nats have returned! With love, Chelsea

Awesome Location with delicious oysters. I think they may have been a little understaffed, but they got the job done. Oysters are pretty pricey which limits going totally hog wild on getting a ton of oysters.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your thoughtful 4-star review! We’re so glad you enjoyed our location and the oysters. We take great pride in the quality of our oysters and believe that the value we present (especially when they’re half off from open til 6pm on Monday through Friday!) is in keeping with that quality and comparable restaurants in our area. We truly appreciate your gracious patience regarding the speed of service during your Sunday visit. We’re always working to improve, and your understanding means a lot to us. We look forward to welcoming you back for another great experience! Best, Chelsea

The Salt Line is a lively restaurant in the Navy Yard. The food was prepared well and they had multiple items to choose from aside from seafood. It's a bit noisy and the outside area is very crowded with young people socializing. It seems to be a popular hangout in the area.

Hi, Mary! Thank you so much for the amazing 5-star review! We're thrilled you enjoyed your experience at The Salt Line. We take pride in offering a variety of dishes, and we're glad you found something you liked. It's true, the vibe can get a little lively with all the socializing (especially on a game day at either Audi Field or Nats Stadium - or on any nice weather day - as was doubly true last night!), but we're thrilled to be a popular spot in the Navy Yard. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another great meal! Best, Chelsea

This is my fave DC restauarant but last night was a flop. The food service was incredibly slow (waited an hour and a half for entrees) and the food just wasn’t good or worth the price. I’ll keep coming here but the experience was disappointing.
The Salt Line - Navy YardResponded on 13 March 2025
Hi, Sally! Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear about your recent experience. We understand your disappointment, especially since you’ve been a loyal and supportive fan of our restaurant. Waiting for an excessive amount of time for entrees and receiving food that didn’t meet your expectations is certainly not the level of service or quality we strive to provide. And I know my saying that last night was definitely an off-night is just an excuse, but it definitely was. We truly appreciate your continued support and hope to welcome you back soon for a better experience. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you’d like to discuss this further. Best, Chelsea

Went there twice during my vacation. First time had the local oysters, clam chowder soup and crab roll. All were amazing, but the stand out was the crab roll as it was stuffed with a lot of flavorful crab meat. 2nd time around I had the crudo, bread, and clams all of which were also tasty. Cocktails and local beer selection was also on point.

Hi, Fiyyaz! Thank you so much for the glowing 5star review! We’re so happy to hear that you had such a great experience with us during your vacation. It means a lot to know you enjoyed the flavors and the variety we offer. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, and we’d love to have you back for round three next time you’re in town! Safe travels! Best, Chelsea
