We ate there twice. The venison dish was great, if a bit pricy. The chicken and tarragon pie was very tasteless and disappointing. The apple soufflé was terrific- I had it twice. Good service from the staff.

Not as good as I remember and a bit disappointed overall. Still love the setting etc and maybe I’m being too critical, but it just fell below my expectations based on other visits. Turkey was cooked very well (the best I have experienced outside the home), but the roast potatoes were very disappointing and the swede and carrots I think would have been better if they had been puréed. The greens seemed like they had been left under a heat lamp and weren’t particularly fresh. Soup was very bland and under seasoned (mushroom). I think if we were ever to return we would only do so to the bar and not the restaurant .

Dead atmosphere, no one asked us if we wanted more drinks, had to ask for more drinks and waitress didn’t even make eye contact with us. No one did check back on the food to see how it was. Pork chops were some of the most dry meat we’ve had, chewy, inedible fat and extremely salty gravy. Some of the plates had carrots and others didn’t. No one asked if we wanted desserts and we went to the bar to ask for the bill. Unbelievably bad value for money. We were booked in again for tomorrow night but have cancelled.

We visited for the festive afternoon tea on Sunday. Firstly, the image of the festive afternoon tea they use to advertise it, is nothing like what you get, you basically get the normal afternoon tea with the addition of a mince pie and a fruit cake … not the festive cakes advertised on their webpage and around the venue!! Secondly, when booking you can only book in the bar area. We were sat by the door, it was very cold and so busy, at times it was difficult to hear each other speak. It was also not the nicest environment to have an afternoon tea, people were stood around you as there was not enough seats to accommodate the guests. The service was ok given how busy it was. The highlight were the scones, they were delicious. Overall, I would not return here for afternoon tea and would not recommend it, which is a shame since we ventured to the Cotswolds for a Christmas Day out together, but was left somewhat disappointed.

Exceptional! Wonderful service and thank you Johan for looking after us so well. The food was incredible and the ambience was perfect. Highly recommend to those who reside in the hotel but also like us are visitors from outside.

We booked afternoon tea at what we thought was the Manor, due to confusion with the booking system! We were sat in a draft near the door - seats were extremely uncomfortable and a large noisy party opposite. We opted for lunch over afternoon tea, because it was obvious afternoon tea was not something this establishment really specialised in! That was the only positive aspect of our visit! Although, because of the cold our food was not hot for long. Certainly wouldn’t return or recommend. And will be more careful when using your booking site! Overall disappointing because we didn’t get the experience we were expecting! Staff were so busy they hardly noticed or understood the situation.

We were really disappointed with our visit this time, when we visited previously in September we ate in the restaurant and it was lovely, the tables had white table cloths and were laid up beautifully with flowers on the tables. So we booked in the restaurant again for lunch with friends, when we arrived we were shown to the bar but I explained we had booked in the restaurant so we were then left just standing about, we went to the restaurant and there was no one about so had to go back to the bar then couldn’t find any staff to help so went back to the restaurant eventually we found someone and explained that we had booked a table for 4 in the restaurant. The restaurant was a mess none of the tables set, no cloths, no festive arrangements on the tables not even any cutlery. We were only given the standard menu and not shown the festive menu and when the food came it was ok although slightly cold and the service quite slow although John was friendly and seemed to be doing his best. It’s not cheap here but you don’t mind because it’s a beautiful location and normally a lovely experience in the restaurant but this time it was embarrassing as we had recommended it to our friends and we were all expecting a special festive experience but instead we had overpriced uninspiring cold food in a canteen like atmosphere with the only nod to Christmas being the tree in the corner. Very disappointed indeed
