Casual, coastal restaurant in the North Loop. Reservations taken for dining room only, patio seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a current partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild caught or farm raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I have eaten here many times and was looking very much forward to the delicious indulgent Mac and cheese and it was everything but - watery thin and the noodles were overdone. I complained and while the waiter totally agreed and acknowledged how it should taste, he still charged me for the meal even though I didn’t even eat it. Bummer of a night.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The weekly special Lobster Pappardelle was so delicious! I hope it returns!! Overall everything was great, wish the oysters had a little more flavor but of course can’t control that. The parsnip puree with the halibut also was beyond delicious and flavorful!

I don’t know if he had too many tables or was distracted but we were not checked in at all and had to wait excessively long for drinks. First time i haven’t been happy with the service . Everything else was great.

Waitress tried to push off white grapefruit was “just the same” as red without the dye. Um, pretty sure grapefruit juice is pink/red all on its own. Just a total miss.
