Located in the heart of the Goodwood Estate and surrounded by the South Downs National Park, The Star & Garter in East Dean offers a delicious selection of freshly cooked, local and seasonal food in a charming dining space with red brick and oak beams. Just a mile down the hill from Goodwood Race Course we are 12 minutes drive from Chichester. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we try to source our ingredients as locally and as seasonally as possible. Whether you are at a Goodwood Event or walking, cycling or just out for a drive and fancy a decent meal at reasonable prices, we like to think we are one of the best around. We have a great courtyard and garden space which can seat up to 100 people. Freshly ground coffee is available all day. With a mixture of local people and tourists there's always a warm welcome here.

    Very nice meal. We arrived at 14.30 for a 14.30 table but the service was a bit slow. Having made our choices off the menu we didn’t actually start eating until 15.15pm. Apart from that, the food was excellent and we were so pleased to see the pub full of diners.

    Fantastic afternoon at the Star and Garter. Added 2 more people on very last minute (taking us to 4 adults and six kids!) and it wasn't a problem despite the pub being busy. A warm welcome, attentive service, nice wine and a fabulous food was then topped off by a musical duo performing after our meal who were brilliant. Such a warm vibe. Perfect Sunday afternoon in a country pub, exactly what we wanted.

    Although the food was good it was slow to arrive as were the drinks. Service erratic as only one waitress seemed to be at all efficient. Also, take care when booking online that you don’t end up with a table outside as we did which was somewhat chilly.
