About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for outdoor dining
We are ‘An all-season pub’, warming fires in the winter and relaxing in the garden through the summer months. On Sundays you’d think the whole of Yorkshire had descend on the pub. Sundays are something of an institution, it’s the busiest day of the week, with Roast Dinners taking the centre stage

We pride our self on being accessible, whilst dishes on the main menu can cost from £14.00 to £20.00, there's a delicious take on pub classics that cost around the £10.00 mark, packed with drinkers and eaters alike.
Up in the Restaurant there is a more subtle affair, serving plates of food designed to reflect the wonderful local produce. We aim to combine the traditional local pub with a a top-notch dining destination. A melting pot of local’s who want to avoid the chore of cooking, alongside those looking to have a blow out meal celebrating all sorts of events.
Most importantly dogs & muddy boots welcome!

This is such a beautiful pub and setting. It's such a shame that the food is so poor! I'll visit again but just for drinks.

This was a belated Christmas treat with friends and we had a lovely time. We thought the view from the table was outstanding and the food was plentiful and tasty.

Was really looking forward to lunch here after visiting Castle Howard. Menu promised a lot but quality of food was not as expected. My Aberdeen Angus Steak Pie was tiny and resembled a Pukka Chip Shop Pie with a teaspoon of Mushy Peas and a few Chips. Sorry but need to do better.

Very impressed by lunchtime menu. Venison and bacon pies excellent. Also 2 mains salads excellent. Couldn’t fault service. Prompt and attentive. Great views.

The pub is fine although the service was variable. People nice but we had to keep reminding them to fetch drinks we ordered. Seemed to me that the system need refining as there were plenty of serving staff but disorganised. Menu was limited also. There was a 'better' menu tucked in behind the main one but was told dishes on there weren't being served. This surprised me for a Saturday night.

We sat in the covered but outside space. Lovely view. Good service and we were warned that our mains would take a while. Thoroughly recommend

I ate here on Mothers Day with my husband and two children. Our table was in the conservatory which has a stunning view. It was a beautiful day so the roof and side windows were open. Also the tables were well spaced apart. This provided a safe eating place for me which was important as I have been shielding for nearly two years. The Sunday lunch menu was delicious. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. All in all a lovely day! Would recommend!

Very warm welcome - and great welcome for our dog. We sat in the conservatory which lacked a bit of the charm of the old pub- food was Good and although service was good - it was a bit slow at times - starters seemed a bit expensive - main courses were good portions - would visit again
