   It was a bit mixed in terms of overall experience. I am only going to dwell on the positive. I had the cod and it was delicious. I have been before and it was better but, will be happy to try again.

   What a lovely, friendly pub in a great location! We went for a family get together and it was just perfect. The food was outstanding even though the kitchen was having tech difficulties with their fryer, temporarily, and the suggested replacement options were delicious. The ingredients were top quality, flavours were amazing and dishes were beautifully presented. We advised when reserving that we were bringing our dog and they allocated a brilliant table at the back where she could tuck in and feel secure. It was very comfortable and the decor is lovely. Our waitress was quick and helpful and service was great, including a lovely warm personal welcome from the manager. A bit pricey but great value for what it was, and we would definitely recommend. It was packed on a Wednesday, though so I think the word is out! Thanks to all who made it a lovely evening.

   I came upon The Surprise by surprise (!), walking from the Kings Road through Chelsea to Cadogan Pier yesterday afternoon. It's tucked into a quiet little square and seemed a lovely place, with a few people enjoying an afterwork or after shopping drink and conversation, and not overblown or overrun, yet up with the times. My partner and I booked a late supper (after a visit to nearby ish Chelsea Arts Club for an aperitif with a friend) and it did not disappoint. We were seated near a gentle gas fire and ordered the Wiltshire burger with caramelized onion jam and mature cheddar and the fish and chips with mushy peas with a glass of red wine each (French and Italian: glasses are available in 175 or 250ml sizes). To our delight, Monday was music night and a dinner jazz set was playing at modest decibels in the next room which enhanced our experience. The staff were attentive, friendly, interesting (we chatted for a spell) and accommodating. I will plan to go there again as a neighborhood night out when we're next in town.

   Beautiful local pub. Sadly there’s only 3 or 4 good tables. Two are just outside the loos and quite a few of the others are next to doors. Booked it for a special occasion last week and was a disaster. There was a large wedding (at least 30 ppl upstairs) and everything went downhill. Guests kept on coming in and out and it was freezing cold, which is ridiculous considering most of the dining guests were elderly people. The wedding guests literally behaved as if they rented out the whole venue, and even told us: “sorry but we’re going to have to keep opening the doors”. If you’re organising a bit party, you should be made to rent out the whole venue as it’s obvious that the experience for all the other guests is going to be horrendous. Wedding party had a big dog off the lead that kept on coming in the dining room and bothering guests - there were some small children, so it was an incredibly irresponsible behaviour and it didn’t seem the staff did anything about this. Food is average and overpriced. Steak was £40 and well done when we asked for medium rare. Sadly won’t be coming back which is a shame as the venue is beautiful and close by.
