   A Bittersweet Experience at The Velvet We chose The Velvet to celebrate our anniversary, expecting a top-tier dining experience given the price and reputation of the place. From the start, the ambiance, music, and staff were outstanding. The service was excellent, and the drinks were well-crafted, setting a great tone for the evening. However, the food was disappointing. We ordered the mussels, tenderloin, and swordfish, but every dish lacked flavor—even the sides. Something as simple as French fries was bland, which was both surprising and frustrating. For a $250 CAD bill, we expected a high-quality culinary experience, but the food simply didn’t live up to the standard. If you're looking for a place with great service, a nice atmosphere, and well-made drinks, The Velvet delivers. But if food is your top priority, you might want to explore other options.

   The Velvet consistently is the best place to dine in the Rossland/Trail area when you want to have a special evening. The menu is updated seasonally, and there is sufficient variety for us to try different items every visit. Although, it's pretty hard NOT to order the sablefish every time. We try to stop in at least once a month and are always warmly greeted by the staff. Great location too, and the views up the ski hill are spectacular. Highly recommended.

   Food was underwhelming. Pasta was so basic my child could have done a better job..pasta with butter and a bit of garlic? Dry, not much flavour and with few clams. Sablefish was cooked beautifully but it was paired poorly with lobster bisque..detracted from the dish. For the $$$ I expect outstanding food. The best part of the meal was the house made sourdough. And the server was lovely too.

   Prix fixe menu for the evening with no choices for courses. No greens, very little vegetables and courses did not marry culinarily. Not enough staff for the evening so dinner ended up being a 3-hour long affair. Was not impressed!
