The Waverly Inn is reopening for outdoor dining on Thursday, August 13th, 2020 for dinner service.

Established in 1920, The Waverly Inn was reopened in 2006 by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter along with Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (of the Maritime and Bowery Hotels) and Emil Varda. Tucked into the ground floors of two adjoining townhouses, the dining room's red booths, fireplaces and low amber lighting provide an attractive and cozy hangout for the city’s best and brightest. The menu features American classics alongside contemporary seasonal dishes using organic, local ingredients.

We visited for our anniversary and got upsold by the waiter for every course, were clearly being rushed from our table, and were seated in between two parties who were talking on their phones for the majority of the evening. Given the price, it did not provide the ambiance or experience we were expecting (especially having noted in the reservation that it was our anniversary).

Went for Sunday brunch. We sat in the garden room which was so pretty and cozy with a fireplace. Food and drinks were great. My Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy. I had an omelette with its goat cheese and mushrooms that was cooked perfectly. My side order of toast was actually grilled and the taste was amazing. We also shared deviled eggs which were so tasty and creamy with a generous amount of caviar on top. Service was great and would definitely come back again.

If re-pouring your own wine passes your threshold for good service and if half-cooked enoki mushrooms in some sort of lemony sauce constitute haute cuisine, then this is your kind of place. On the positive side, ingredients were fresh, salads were excellent (albeit expensive) and the wine list is well-selected.
