   Husband and I went for Valentine’s Day. We had gotten a babysitter and were dressed up and looking forward to it since we hadn’t been to Vista18 before and had a reservation which we got to on time. We were told as we were being seated we could only be there for a max of 2 hours, which I thought was a tacky remark from the get go as we had plans for after dinner so we were not hoping dinner to take longer than 2 hours anyway. We were seated in a half booth away from the windows very close to another couple (1 chair width away). It felt like a double date we were so close. When we asked our waitress if we could be moved to one of the open tables at the windows with the views we were told no, which would have been fine if we saw people seated in them but there were tables next to the views that were unseated the whole time we were there. There was only 1 glass for water at the table that we were seated at, as the waitress filled up our glass she noticed and said she would be back with another glass for water. That glass didn’t come until dessert. During dinner the waitress asked if we wanted fresh cracked pepper, my husband said he would like some for his lentils she then acknowledged and said she would be back with the pepper. She never returned with the pepper. The food was rich and buttery and excellent other than the crab cakes from the $70 valentines set menu were lukewarm and not crispy on the outside, very flavourful however. We came for the view and experience; we didn’t get the view, the service was rigid, forgetful and unaccommodating to a reasonable request.

   Waste of time and money for trying this place out first time. Salmon dish was done raw and then hidden under sauce to hide it. When revealed, offered to redo dish but second time also raw and the fish was plated upside down and a much smaller tail piece than the first time. Appetizers and dessert were good but the fact was an enjoyable dinner evening turned into one of one dinner eating alone and sharing a dish while the other waited for their dish to be redone and then finally not eating at all. The lentils in the lamb were also super salty but given my dissatisfaction I didn't want to bring that up. They gave me half off one of the dine out costs yes but that still came out to $82 and not having a main dish in a 3 course meal should be valued at more than half not to mention the cost of wasting time of diners waiting around or dish to be redone and not really able to have the do simple act of having a meal together. Service was very basic no checking in on how our food was or anything of that sort; it was me who had to flag down the staff to point out the quality of the dish. I won't ever return--don't waste your money here -- many better quality restaurants in Victoria to give your money to for food and service.

   We ordered from the Dine Around menu. Salad and dessert portions were smaller than expected. Service (Drew) was very good - attentive and engaging.

   It was OK. Just ok. I was excited that they had a 3 course dine option, and the lambshank drew my eye. The shank was rather bland and dry. The lentils were the highlight of the dish. Our server wasn't always attentive, and it felt like we waited an eternity for our food given that it was late in the evening and it wasn't a full restaurant. The views/ambience are unmatched and this was the highlight of the evening. But alas, I likely won't return.
