   The Filet at Wandering Vine is one of the best I’ve ever had! Asparagus was cooked to perfection. Wine flights were fun and wine list was excellent. Server was attentive and bubbly! Owner stopped at our table to see if we were well taken care of and we had a nice conversation with her. HIGHLY recommend Wandering Vine at the Castle for any special occasion!

   We went for brunch. My stuffed French toast was good. Husband had biscuits and gravy, he said it was too peppery. He only ate half of it which is unusual for him. He also got a side of breakfast potatoes they were very salty. We will not go back. Too expensive for what we got. We had to stop on the way home to get him something else to eat. Atmosphere was cool. Not worth it for the food.

   The Owner was incredibly rude to us. As if he wanted to start a fight. The food was sub par. Server never thought about refilling our waters, tea or coffee. Only one dish our group ordered was enjoyed.

   I'm not sure if we came on a bad night, but our experience was subpar. While the atmosphere is charming and the wine selection impressive, the service was poor, and the food fell short of expectations. (The food wasn’t "bad," but it certainly wasn’t impressive either.) The biggest issue was our server. She was short with us, didn’t explain the menu, walked around with a scowl, and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. This was the single most frustrating part with the night. We were there for a birthday date night—a special occasion our sever was aware of—yet there was no engagement, no recommendations, just a rushed, dismissive attitude. We started with the chilled crab legs, which were good, but even asking for extra napkins felt like a burden. Both the pork chop and the duck were overcooked—not bad but both were a touch dry and lacked that "melt-in-your-mouth" quality that you get from local competitors. The mushroom side lacked balance; a bit of butter and salt would have vastly improved it, but as served, it fell flat. Simply put, at this price point, I expect better. There are plenty of other places in KC with a similar ambiance and far better execution. Unfortunately, this visit left us with more regret than enjoyment, and I don’t see us coming back.

   I had the filet and it didn’t come with the sauce and it was grisly and charred on the outside while being a little more rare than medium rare on the inside. Over all I he food was pretty good and the apple tart and calamari was excellent. The wine was fantastic and the ambience was great. My wife had the duck special and I would highly recommend it. I’ll definitely go back.

   Great food and wine selection with a unique ambiance tucked in the middle of Shawnee. Great atmosphere for a date night, celebration or business dinner.
