Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in this stunning roadside pub in the heart of Amble harbour town. Here at The Wellwood Arms, we are the perfect retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand. Originally built as a farmhouse for Link House Farm, one of the three farms which made up early Amble, the pub is one of the oldest buildings in the whole of the town! Records dating back as far as 1842 show that the farm was owned by a Mrs Maria Wellwood - a possible explanation for the pub's name today! Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted from our seasonal menus and the bar is crammed with local ales and tipples to tempt any taste buds. Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there's a dish for every desire. Turn your fleeting visit into a welcomed stay by resting your head in one of our four comfortable family ensuite rooms. All decorated with cosy interiors and homely touches you'll be able to unwind in comfort and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere in a home away from home.

Lovely roast dinner only spoiled by being swamped with so much gravy it was spilling over the plate! But the meat was lovely. We did not realise that the football would be on screens everywhere in the pub - we probably would not have chosen to eat there if we had known but that is not reallly a criticism - we just didn’t know and are not fans

Went later in the day and they had run out of chicken, parsnips and leeks. So that was slightly disappointing but we were offered extra veg of what they had left Food was hot and very tasty. Couldn’t find any fault at all. Will know for next time to go earlier

Sunday lunch Trio of meats x 2. Im sorry but it was awful. Belly Pork had no meat at all in it and the beef was way over cooked, couldn’t cut it. Parsnips burnt as was Yorkshire pudding. Was with my autistic son and he gets upset if things aren’t right so felt I couldn’t complain but this food was substandard, especially for the £19 price. This wasn’t just down to personal preference. Anyone, especially a chef should know the issues with what was served and it was a bit of an insult it was to be honest.

I didn't realise it wasn't a carvery any more since new management. The food was hot and tasty but there wasn't any stuffing or mash potato The toilet corridor was stinking and needs to be addressed

We booked a table for Sunday lunch when we arrived we were given menus and shown to our table. It wasn't until they came to take the order we were told there was only 4 beef dinners left none of the other options were available. When the dinner arrived some of the veg was missing, the 'roast potatoes' were frozen not fresh roast potatoes and the beef wasn't that nice. We mentioned about the veg to which they replied we ran out, it would have been nice to have been told beforehand. Annoyingly we had eaten off the lunch menu the previous day and this was quiet nice.

I booked a table for 9:30 for friends who had just finished the Geordieman, the booking was confirmed and then I was asked to confirm I was still coming which I did, then a few hours before we were due to arrive I was contacted my email, which thankfully I had access to via my phone, to tell me that their kitchen closes at an earlier time. I asked why I had been able to book a table via their booking system and I didn’t really get any answer to that and they would not make an exception, so I was then scrabbling around to find another place to eat on a Sunday night for two hungry people who had just swam 2.4 miles, cycled 112miles and run a marathon one after the other. So I was pretty disappointed that we didn’t get to eat there, and that there doesn’t seem to have been any learnings to adjust their system of booking. Poor customer service before even starting.

Sunday lunch trio of meats really recommended. Stayed here bed and breakfast with vegan partner. Really great at catering to dietary needs. Great service from staff - always friendly and helpful. Thanks for great food and stay!

We visited the Wellwood Arms whilst on holiday in Amble. It was a sunday so we all had a sunday roast beef which was delicious. The service was excellent and we chose the venue for Sky TV as my partners team were playing away to Newcastle! The boys stayed in the restaurant all afternoon watching the match in the restaurant and were thoroughly looked after by the staff! Thoroughly recommend this pub/restaurant for ambience, quality food and service, albeit not for the result of the match!
