At The White Horse Tavern we strive to create a fresh, contemporary culinary experience in America’s Oldest Restaurant. Like generations before us, we serve the freshest fish, clams and lobsters from Narragansett Bay along with just-picked produce from local RI’s farms. We embrace RI’s vibrant food scene to bring you the very best artisan cheeses, honeys, prime cuts of beef and the highest quality chops and poultry from local farms. We are proud to embrace RI's vibrant food scene, which has made the White Horse Tavern a New England destination.

Proper Dress Required; Business Casual is appropriate. Jackets are not required. Please no athletic wear.

Please note any allergies or special requests when making your reservation or any restrictions with stairs. Reservations are recommended to be made 2 to 4 weeks prior to your preferred dining date and time. Specific tables may be requested however we are unable to guarantee certain requests.

    Terrific, historic restaurant located in Newport RI that offers a rich American history. Great staff and delicious food it is a “special occasions” rather than an everyday eatery due to the high wine and food costs. A fairly limited menu that specializes in the offerings they provide it would not be suitable for children or young adolescents. Definitely an experience all should try even if only once.

    WE WERE OUT CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS, HOLIDAYS ALL AND ANY EVENT WHILE LIVING 1/2 WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY FROM EACH OTHER. SCOTT, OUR SERVER, WAS SUPERB. ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES WITH SERVICE, AMBIENCE AND FOOD!

    We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the White Horse Tavern recently. There was a beautiful roaring fire going in the fireplace giving the perfect glow to the room. Our servers were superb...they were very attentive, but not intrusive. I started with the Lobster Bisque which is the best I've ever had...it is creamy and so tasty. My husband enjoyed the local oysters immensely. For dinner we had the seared scallops and the crab cake special. Both were cooked to perfection and delicious. We ended the night with the Tavern Candy Bar dessert which was everything we hoped for to top off our delicious dinner. All in all, everything about this restaurant is A++++.

    This was a spectacular experience. Lovely service and food was the best we had in Newport. We will return to the city specifically for this place!

    The service was exceptional and very attentive. My husband had the beef Wellington, I had the bolognese, both were very delicious. The Wellington was cooked perfectly and the flavors all melded together nicely. We shared the seasonal bread pudding for dessert. It was rich and dense, it was delicious I just would not have been able to finish it solo.
