Best French food in San Francisco. The onion tart is a must-order: decadent caramelized onions in a delightfully crispy pastry, all topped with goat cheese. The braised oxtail is a beauty: meat so tender it falls off the bone in an irresistible red wine sauce. Desserts are obligatory. The chocolate mousse is airy and rich but not over-the-top. The ice creams and sorbets, all made in-house, are masterful. Cocktails are great too. Leland is an expert bartender and he managed to chat with us about his favorite cocktails all while tending to the lively happy hour at the bar/lounge. His wine pairing suggestions—which were very reasonably priced—were very helpful too. The service is top-notch—Christie, the owner, is friendly and personable and made us feel welcome from the moment she stopped by our table. The atmosphere is elegant—after all this is a fine dining establishment—but also approachable and warm. Overall a great and memorable meal. To call this restaurant a bistro almost does a disservice to the expertness of the food here, which is crafted with such refinement that it doesn’t feel too out-of-step with the two-star Michelin heritage of Chef Chemel’s former restaurant.

Fantastic food, beverage, and service! Worth a trip to this refuge to avoid some of the overpriced and less impressive cuisine in the area.

The best new French restaurant in town! I don’t know where to start. The ambiance is spectacular, the upstairs bar feels like a speakeasy, it’s such a surprise to walk up the stairs and see the second level of the dining room AND the bar. The food is some of the best of I have eaten, I just can’t get over the Onion Tart, the asparagus soup and the ravioli. We ordered the small appetizer ravioli and ordered a second full dinner size because it was so damn good. We devoured it! Every main came out didn’t disappoint, we ended up sharing the dishes we had individually ordered because we didn’t want to miss anything. I still can’t get over how the good it all was. The vibe is so surprisingly great! I was surprised at the pistachio dessert. OMG. It’s insanely delicious. The chocolate mousse is also a must. Get in now before word gets out. Oh, the service was outstanding, the entire staff is so friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable. I love this place! We will be back with more friends!

Absolutely astounding experience, from the food, to the service, to the feel of the place. I ordered the best steak frites that i’ve ever had in my 30 years of dining experience. My server was very knowledgeable about the food, wine and cocktails. I discovered after having a friendly conversation with her, that she was indeed the owner! Wow! After this, I decided i’d treat myself to a chocolate mousse. Simply amazing. This is a must-go for locals who love french cuisine and just a nice affordable dinner. All in all, one of the best spots in the bay area by far. I am definitely coming back here again with my wife.

Horrible service. Server (who claimed she was the owner) knew nothing about the cocktail menu and when I suggested she consult with the bartender, she flatly stated "you don't need to have attitude ". My cocktail was the tiniest ever and cost $24.00. When we asked for a real server, she stated "No one is willing to serve you as you are difficult". Service was slow the entire time and my meal arrived cold (cold french fries are not the best). I did not bother sending it back knowing the ramifications. The check had 20% ($95+) service charge which explains, at least in part, why the owner did not withhold her nasty comments. A disappointing meal from the get go and had it not been for the other couple whom we were treating, we would have walked out before ordering. We will not be returning.
