The restaurant offers menu and ambiance in a casual elegant style.     Probably the best gig in town, but a bit overrated. The dishes were good, but lacked inspiration and creativity expected of a restaurant said to be the best in New Haven. Prices were high for what you got. I was glad to bring my wife who would not been before, but it would not be our first choice over trying something new in town next time in these parts. The overall vibe was “good but complacent, no longer striving to be great”.

    While New Haven leaves a bit to be desired, the Union League Cafe does not. It is a restaurant that, in my view, stands on par with some of the best restaurants in New York. It has a fully-stocked wine cellar and bar, and the whole menu (particularly seafood) is excellent - not Michelin 2 star, but I would give it 1 Michelin Star. Of particular note are les escargots, which are the best on the East Coast (better, in my view than those at say, Daniel, in Manhattan). Better still is the ambiance: it's perfect for dinners of 4 or 5 people where you really want to have a conversation or discussion. In fact, I learned about it from attending board dinners for a Yale-affiliated group at Union League. Definitely worth a trip from Boston or New York - probably about 90 minutes from each by car or train.

    This is the best restaurant for celebrating anything...even sometimes nothing. Best Beef Wellington, Halibut, escargot, Radiotori pasta with crab...and amazing desserts

    Perfect. Except for the very loud person 1 table over. The only person in the entire restaurant that you could hear. Sadly, I understand that the restaurant can do nothing about it.

    It’s always a wonderful experience when dining at the union league in New Haven, Connecticut. The food is exquisite as well as the wine selection. Great place to go for a special occasion or for the holidays.

    Love this restaurant. We went on our wedding night 32 years ago and come back every so often fir our anniversary. Great food and service.

    Union League is always an elegant and delicious experience. Although expensive (think New York prices), this special place in New Haven provides an incredibly singular dining experience for any special occasion with friends or family. First, the service is second to none; everyone is attentive and warm and wants patrons to have the most enjoyable experience. Second, The food is expertly prepared; my favorite dishes are duck breast and tuna tartare. The meat is skillfully ready at your specified temperature, and the seafood is always fresh. Many of these fine-dining restaurants come up short when dessert arrives. Union League’s pastry chef creates gorgeous and diverse desserts for which we can always find room at the end of our meal. Whenever I want to show someone a gem, I take them to Union League.
