   Fantastic experience sitting at the Chef’s counter. Service and food were impeccable. Will definitely go again when we’re in Ottawa next.

   I went for my birthday and we sat in front of the kitchen. We were able to see our food being cooked, which was nice. The server was attentive and cleared our plates and got our drinks and food served fairly quickly. Ordered: Octopus, Ravioli and Duck. Was delicious. Drinks: penicillin, the last word, purple rain (not on menu) and a gimlet. They were terrific! Was too full for dessert but the pavlova and sticky pudding looked great from what we saw. Regardless they gave us a lil mini brownie/ truffle with a lot candle was super cute. Would come back of course!!!

   I had heard good things about Riviera and was looking forward to a special dinner with my partner. It's a nice room and a cool vibe for sure, and everything went smoothly re: coats were whisked away, table was nice, server quickly introduced himself, etc. Just what you would expect from such an establishment. The server was attentive and helpful and we enjoyed the cocktails, although I'm not sure about the recipes in terms of the overall taste sensation. But an extensive drink menu for sure. The starters were very good and fairly substantial, but I would think commensurate with the price. I wasn't at impressed with the entree offerings; very staid and limited (steak frites, duck and fish) and given that we had appetizers, we decided to go with pasta. My partner had the gnocchi with real/fresh truffle and I had the ravioli. The ravioli was okay, but pretty bland and just a bit watery. The gnocchi were also quite bland and the truffles didn't add much if anything to the dish. I'm not a truffle expert, but the overall effect was underwhelming. The wine service was fun, informed and interesting, but I ended up with the most expensive 5 oz. pour I've ever had at $30. Good wine but I guess I should have inquired about the price. In any case, we were expecting to drop a few bucks, so the money wasn't a big issue, I would just have expected a bit more daring and innovation in the main courses. This was a bit of a delayed celebration of our anniversary, so we were provided with a delightful dessert on the house; delightful but not awesome. And I guess that's why I didn't rate it higher. Good in so many ways, but not awesome. So, keep trying and I'll likely be back, but I'll check the menu more carefully next time and make sure that the food looks particularly interesting.

    Great experience overall. Good was delicious and highly recommend the mushrooms on toast. I also had the best Negroni EVER!
