A delightful experience for a pre-theater dinner beginning with a warm and cheerful greeting from the hostess upon arrival. What prevented this from being a full five star review was that we were seated at a table in the rear corner of the restaurant which had so little room between the table and the two long banquette seats that only two skeletons would have been comfortable seated there. Fortunately we were able to borrow an unused chair from another table and change the seating arrangement but otherwise it would have been impossibly uncomfortable for two normal sized people to enjoy a meal there. Our server seemed to indicate that this was not an uncommon problem with this particular table so perhaps the restaurant should rethink the seating in that corner and place a small round table and two chairs there instead.

Wonderful attentive staff that ensured we got through dinner in time for the show we were attending nearby. Fun, show-inspired cocktail menu and a lovely starter menu. I'm not sure if it was just me, but something was lacking from the entree list -- nothing looked particularly appealing to me even though many proteins were presented. Wished it was possible to have some of the starters in entree portions. They probably would've accommodated that request but I didn't want to put them out when we were on a time schedule. What I had was good but nothing spectacular.

We went to the Grant Grill because we had tickets to San Diego Civic Theater. The best part of the entire experience was being able to leave our car at the valet during the show. It seemed like the keystone cops were working that night. The waiter forgot to ask my daughter if she wanted anything to drink so we had to call him back over. I have never heard so many dropped utensils and broken glasses while we were dining. The wait staff was poorly trained and clumsy - one server tripped into the back of one of our chairs. They brought my husband’s salad (he was the only one who ordered a first course) then brought out our entrees half way through him eating his salad. The woman serving the food set it down and said “thank you,” which seemed strange. The food was mediocre- I had the duck and it was tough and cold. They did get us out before the show and as I said, you can leave your car there (although it costs extra).

The food is pricey and the drinks cost more but Jose is fantastic and has a great team supporting him. Jose consistently provides great service.

Great location to go before a show. We haven’t been for a while and prices have gone up, especially for a bottle of wine, only a few slightly under $100. The salmon was average. The duck was too rare, and the waiter never came around to ask how our dinner was so just ate the outside which was cooked enough

I frequent the Grant Grill on civic theater nights due to its close proximity and valet parking, which is normally $25 but is discounted to $12 with validation. Dinner for 2 consisted of a ceaser salad and the duck main entree and a bottle of Bella Glos Pinot Noir. The Amusbuche was disappointing as it is meant to inspire your tastebuds and fell flat. The ceaser salad was enjoyable however the entree crispy duck consisted of three very small portions of medium soft sliced duck medallions the size of a quarter. After attending the theater the head valet still charged my validated parking the $25 fee. So in hindsight I’m going to just pay for parking and save myself the $225 dinner charge! If you do go for dinner, don’t go hungry you will still be wanting for something more! Very Sad!

The food was quite good. I ordered the salmon and my guest had the ribeye. Both were excellent. My only disappointment was that there were few dinners.

An all around great experience. The steak, octopus appetizer and the pork were amazing. The service was top notch and the history of the building was very interesting. Great time was had by all!
