   I recently dined at Simon & Seafort’s Saloon & Grill in Anchorage, anticipating a memorable experience given its longstanding reputation. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by several disappointments. Our server, Matt, was notably rude and unaccommodating, setting a negative tone for the night. The bartender spilled half of my drink in front of me without offering a replacement or topping it off, which was both unprofessional and frustrating. To add to the frustration, all cocktails and beers were served in unchilled glasses—a surprising oversight, especially when paying $15 for a cocktail. The appetizers and soups were delightful and stood out as the highlight of the meal. However, the main courses were underwhelming. The salmon dish contained bones, making it unpleasant to eat; the steak was undercooked twice, despite being sent back; and the halibut stuffed with crab, as well as the halibut cheeks, were bland and lacked flavor. While the manager did make a gesture by removing the salmon dish from our bill, it wasn’t enough to compensate for the overall poor service and mediocre food quality. Given this experience, I can only recommend the appetizers and soups and do not plan to return for a full dining experience.

   We’ve gone to Simon and Seaforts for years. The last couple times we’ve gone, the quality has gone drastically downhill. The crab and artichoke dip is usually creamy and fresh. I sent ours back because it was nothing but grease, burned around the edge, with long strings of onion in it. My main entree was the Crab stuffed Halibut. It was also overcooked, the halibut dry, burnt on the bottom and the topping dry, the green beans shriveled, overcooked but then let go cold. The bathroom was filthy. Two toilets of three disgusting and unusable, one of the three sinks out of order. So very very disappointed in how downhill such an iconic restaurant has gone.

   Oysters were excellent. Bread was stale and hard. Halibut was overcooked. String beans were difficult to eat because they required more cooking. Dessert of creme brulee was outstanding. Crying infants are unacceptable. Infants have no place in a restaurant of this caliber.

   A raging disappointment. I ordered a prickly pear margarita and asked for it strong and not too sweet. The drink was presented in lightning-fast time which suggests it was premade and was so cloyingly sickly sweet that I could barely drink it. Service was erratic despite being virtually empty. Annoyingly over-attentive one minute then non-existent the next and missing on all points with zero refinement. I ordered the set menu. • Clam chowder - delivered within 1 minute of ordering so it was clearly ladelled from a vat. It was as if the cook, I won't use the term chef here, added a couple of extra clams and bits of potato to a tin of Campbells soup and chucked it in the microwave. Very forgettable. • Miso soy glazed black cod - Arrived about 30 secs after I received my soup. Serving main courses while the customer is still "enjoying" their appetiser is something I loathe about US restaurants. I asked the server to return it to the kitchen which she found strange. It re-appeared 5 minutes later without asking so I decided to just accept it. The portion was tiny and looked like a bit of fish had been thrown under the broiler then smeared in a flavourless brown sauce. Zero seasoning, zero care, zero points for execution on any level. The best thing on the plate was the plain boiled white rice which was well cooked. • Creme Brulee - This was the saviour. The custard was well made and the crust bruleed to perfection. My only criticism is that the portion size was bigger than the appetizer and main course combined, it was enough for 3-4 people and a little overwhelming to be presented to a single diner. This experience was a major disappointment for me as I had heard good things about S&S. Perhaps I was expecting too much but it was bad enough to strike this one off the list for good, I won't be going back. Go to Sullivan's, it's not flawless but it blows this place out of the water.

   Horrible service and the food was cold. It’s not the restaurant we have been so used to in the past. Simon’s has really gone downhill

   Love always heading in to use my birthday reward. Double bonus was they had a 3 course meal special that was definitely worth the price.
