We were in New York the Sunday before New Year’s, and had the great fortune of going to Sugar Bar. I seen Valerie Simpson on TV a few days before and it reminded me of this restaurant. So glad I happened upon that interview. A New York neighborhood restaurant bar was full of chatting people having a good time. The food was good. The drinks were great and the desserts scrumptious. More importantly, it was beautiful to pay how much to Ashford & Simpson. It reminded me of growing up with their music in the background. We went on a Sunday; next time I’ll be sure to go on a day that they have music!

I am so happy that I selected Sugar Bar to take my friends to eat with me. First, the place is cozy and intimate and very clean. Second, the staff that checked my cost, served our food and created our mixed alcoholic drinks were cordial, joyful, attentive and professional. Third, the prices were moderately priced for such grand tasty food in an upscale neighborhood. We will return here to watching and listen to their live music. Thank you Sugar Bay for a marvelous evening. I appreciate the staff including the chef (s). Happy New Year.

We really enjoyed our meals. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The service was great also. The prices were especially great for NYC. Would definitely return on another trip to NYC.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday Brunch at the Sugar Bar Restaurant. They even had freshly-made cornbroead--although the small portion served us was just enough for one (instead of two) diners. The cornbread, like our meals was excellent. I had my usual pan-seared catfish and grits and my dining partner had a delightful full breakfast, eggs and all. But no toast! Why the skimping on bread and cornbread? A breakfast and/or brunch is not complete without a side of toast and cornbread. Last time we ordered toast, we were charged for the toast. So, this time,we settled for the one tiny slice of cornbread which I devoured, it was so tasty and good. We had OJ and Pineapple juice in lieu of the alcoholic beverages that come with the Sunday Brunch deal. We're not hot about the mandatory 18% tip added to the bill but understand why that's so---too many diners stiff the waiters with stinginess. All in all, this is a very well done Sunday Brunch: compliments to the chef. The food is always excellent at the Sugar Bar. Mickey Michaels

If you are looking to experience an amalgam of musical genres, performed by incredible musicians while being served world class cuisine with a distinctly soulful flavor, then the Sugar Bar is your go-to place. The air of happiness in a multicultural, cozy as well as state-of-the-art venue combining a Southern Juke Joint vibe with superstar talent is electric. Broadway singers, blues musicians, new age performers all appreciating each other's gifts enabled the development of a true family feeling amongst total strangers in this singular restaurant. Thursday night's "open mic" events are an absolute must for anyone looking for a great evening out!

All components of my meal were 3 different temperatures and none being hot. Potatoes were cold, pancakes luke warm and eggs were warm. Service was subpar. Took 30-40 min to get drinks.
