TEN, the fine dining restaurant of the Northern Hotel, is named after the owners father, Thomas Edgar Nelson. The atmosphere in TEN brings back memories of the previous Northern Hotel as the place to meet, greet, and enjoy great food and drinks. Serving classic American Steakhouse cuisine with a decidedly modern spin.

    Disappointed in a high end steakhouse food was mediocre at best and service very slow. We ordered drinks and our appetizer arrived before opening cocktails and waitress was trying to get us to order before we even got drinks. The bison short rib was dry as was the risotto. But the pasta and halibut were very good. We had a Cesear salad it was not good. Not creamy no croutons and lack luster for a steak house.

    We hadn’t been to TEN in years, but decided to give it another try after our last (disappointing) experience. We were a party of 3 and only about 10 other people were in the restaurant when we arrived. A few others came in after us. Kerrie, who greeted us, was very nice and helpful. Her service was very good. She asked if we were going to a show at the nearby theater, which we were, so we had a limited time to dine. We ordered our food - entrees only - and then waited. And waited. And waited. 40 minutes later we were served: spaghetti for 2 of us and Buffalo short rib for one person. The short rib was quite good. The spaghetti was poor. One dish was literally crunchy in the center. It supposedly contained waygu beef; one small piece of meat was found. By now it was 20 minutes before the show was starting so there was no time for corrections. The 2 of us going to the show had to leave; the one not going kindly stayed to pay. I am mystified by the high ratings I read before booking. The menu is fairly limited and expensive (steaks $63+, spaghetti $27, short rib $41). Wines by the glass were mostly $16 and up but pours were generous. I’ll close by saying it was not the fine dining experience I expected based on reviews. Service was pleasant but the food left much to be desired.

    Very good service and generous portions. As has been noted in previous posts by other diners they were out of the cheese plate. I had planned on ordering the cheese plate but I wasn’t upset since I had been forewarned and I decided to order the meat plate charcuterie instead (which was amazing). There was a good variety of meats and I especially liked the spicy meats. I can only imagine that the cheese plate was as tasty and delicious and I wish it was available.

    As always, the food is very good. Ambience was quiet . Service was OK . Unfortunately, we wanted a cheese plate which for some reason they didn’t have and it was only 5pm. I realize that because your menus are printed out before hand, but your server should know what’s available and what is not. I was very disappointed in the fact that I was there for my birthday last year in August and you still had problems with your food what was available and what was not . If your dining room isn’t open until 5 PM then what is the problem with you not having everything that’s on the menu . I don’t know maybe I’m wrong. I just assume that when you open for business for the evening that you have everything that’s on your menu. All in all, I probably will not come back to this place. I was very disappointed. I’m sorry.

    We recently celebrated my wife’s 27th birthday at The Ten at the Northern Hotel in Billings, Montana, and our experience was absolutely exceptional, thanks in large part to our server, Sean. From the moment we were seated, Sean’s warm and attentive service made us feel incredibly special. Sean began our evening with a thorough tour of the menu, highlighting the restaurant’s specialties and making thoughtful recommendations for both food and drinks. His knowledge and passion for the cuisine were evident, and his suggestions truly enhanced our dining experience. What truly set Sean apart was his attentiveness to our family, especially our infant son. He went above and beyond to ensure our little one was comfortable, happy, and well taken care of throughout the evening. This level of care allowed us to relax and enjoy the celebration even more. To top it all off, Sean surprised us with a delicious birthday cake for my wife, making the evening even more memorable. His thoughtful gesture and exceptional service turned a wonderful dinner into an unforgettable celebration. Sean’s dedication, expertise, and genuine care for his guests make him an outstanding server. We highly recommend The Ten and will definitely be returning, thanks to the incredible experience Sean provided.
