The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s.
Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. The restaurant serves innovative, traditional and contemporary interpretations of American cuisine with some added international accents, prepared under the direction of Executive Chef John Benjamin. Delicious homemade desserts complete the menus, which are revised several times a year. Outdoor patio dining and fireside dining are available in season.
The restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily, as well as a special breakfast/lunch a la carte menu offered on Saturdays from 11 am to 4pm. Sunday 11am to 3 pm.

The Hunt Room has a rustic decor with a private pub and dance floor, and features a private entrance. The seasonally tented Hunt Patio is also available for social and corporate events; it is surrounded by rolling lawns and flower gardens with a gazebo.

    Very expensive for a basic menu. Many open tables in the cozier pub area however we were told we couldn’t sit there due to other reservations. Tables still open when we left. Did I mention how expensive it is???

    Love The Grain House! I’ve been going there for over 35 years. Excellent food, service and ambience. Very consistent and reasonably priced. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We all ordered burgers and they were served exactly as ordered. I highly recommend The Grain House!

    Lovely restaurant with good service and ambiance. It was a little loud but we did go at peak hour. Food was delicious. Portions were great on our pasta dish. However the fish could have used more substantial potatoes or another accompaniment to make it a more satisfying dish. We will definitely be back.

    Good selection at great prices, great food (and you can substitute!), wonderful service people and a warm and inviting room to enjoy it all! The salads and their turkey burger are some of the best around!

    My wife and I met for Sunday lunch with two close friends on a very cold January afternoon. The dining room was very cozy. We were seated near a blazing wood fireplace which kept us nice and cozy on this bitter winter day. The menu was very inviting. I ordered salmon burger with avocado and a side salad. My wife ordered a harvest salad with grilled salmon and roasted walnuts. Our friends ordered avocado toast with salmon. All the dishes were nicely presented and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. The only negative was that the noise level was quite high and made conversation a little challenging at times. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and one we look forward to repeating in the future

    The history of The Grain House is fascinating and the ambience/decor is inviting. On the day we dined, there were quite a few children in the restaurant which made the noise level quite high. The service was quite slow - it took over 15 minutes to get two cappucinos. It appears they only had one or two servers for the large dining area, with a couple more for the back dining room and bar area. I asked to see the dessert menu at the end of the meal...the server never brought it and after 20 mins, I just asked for the bill, which took another 10-15 mins to get. I am not inclined to return.
